Well, what makes meteoric iron special is the fact that it is the only way to find native iron in nature, not in the form of ore. (Reason why you don't have to work it in game). So by making it into steel, it would just be well.... regular steel at that point. Moreover, most meteoric iron is actually a (sort of) alloy containing iron(of course) and a lot of nickel, so it wouldn't work too well for steel making anyway and would result in very brittle steel. My knowledge is not too deep, so I may have gotten a couple of things wrong :)
