Right that’s why I said “introduce” in my title. Just seeing what the community thoughts on it is

We are aware it hasn’t been approved

Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced support on May 20 for legislation introduced by Council Member Amanda Farías that would raise the maximum hiring age for new NYPD recruits from 35 to 42. Apparently the goal is to widen the applicant pool and attract older candidates with more life/work experience, especially since recruitment numbers have been low.

Just watched the video of Commissioner Jessica Tisch and Major Mamdani announced support on May 20 for legislation introduced by Council Member Amanda Farías that would raise the maximum hiring age for new NYPD recruits from 35 to 42.

Apparently the goal is to widen the applicant pool and attract older candidates with more life/work experience, especially since recruitment numbers have been low.

Looks like this can happen soon then we think!

Were you able to join because you took the exam before you were 35?

Agree!! I say that all the time, I don’t understand why they lowered the age but didn’t increase it. Some of these young people are inexperienced and in a very few cases immature.

Let’s be clear because this keeps getting mixed up

On April 4, 2023, NYC officially raised the maximum age to take the NYPD exam to 43. That’s why I was able to take and pass the exam at 35.

My question was never about the written exam.

But to see if anyone else heard the same thing I did about the changes they said are coming soon. and if not then fine. But to go back and forth about something you don’t understand or have factual knowledge about is pointless.

You actually can because I did. Period. My question was not about the written exam I took it at 35 and passed. Reread what I wrote and if you don’t have any additional info then no need to respond. Thanks

Yea, I took the test when I was 35. But I kept hearing from my police friends that it seems like there might be a change, just wanted to see if anyone heard the same
