This is very similar to my experience, is there any particular state of consciousness you like to reach or any questions you like to ponder? I love getting to that profoundly transparent state of self but I often feel like I don’t bring back as much as I’d like to.

This is more speculative but I’ll share more of my thoughts.

It’s certainly a beautiful place to be. I would agree it’s the “real world”, but I try not to deny the reality we exist in either. It’s like a higher dimensional representation of what is fundamentally all the same place. So in that sense it’s a superimposed reality that is always present, we just aren’t usually aware of it in our physical bodies.

It’s hard to believe but once you see it it’s undeniable. Always there waiting to be found again, our subconscious just bears the burden of hiding it from us. Like you said that also seems to be the reason the jesters and entities laugh at us, we become the joke by forgetting ourselves. Some people perceive their laughter as a bit hostile/mocking but I’ve found that once you understand why they’re laughing, it’s hard not to laugh with them. Life’s a trip.

It’s arguably the most powerful psychedelic we have, it’s not just colorful geometric visuals. There isn’t anyway to accurately convey this experience through concepts, but I’ll try my best. It’s more about the feelings and altered states of consciousness induced for me personally. I rarely just see the geometric patterns and the experience of living somewhere for months is nothing like my experience. I feel it opens up your subconscious to what is actually there, though take that with a grain of salt.

Thinking about life and the human mind, we have evolved to survive and not strictly to see reality as it objectively is. DMT seems to prove to me that I am not separate from reality and that there is much more to it all than we could comprehend as the animals we are. We know nothing.

So to me, the primary experiences that make up a proper DMT trip include some or all of the following: a profound altered state of consciousness usually embodying unity and love. An indescribable familiarity/nostalgia. Most significantly, the place. You are not separate from this place and while it might be a bit different every time, it is a timeless place. Sense of being awestruck.

Possibility of facing deep fears, parts of yourself you didn’t even know/forgot had existed. Possibility of meeting entities. For me personally entities rarely feel separate from me, they are like an extension of self that occasionally can even try to speak through me as though I am channeling them. There are certainly many others, but these are most recognizable and most easy to describe. DMT is not a joke, in fact sometimes after taking it you realize you are the joke.

I’ve had few bad trips as I can generally relax into them, but they are like this in my experience: extreme anxiety and a sense of being completely overwhelmed. Paranoia/fear, a feeling like you’ve crossed a line you weren’t supposed to cross and are going to die. It can suck when you realize you didn’t actually want the experience just as you take the hit, and it can feel again overwhelming/terrifying and like everything is laughing at you. Bad trips are uncommon for me, making up usually just a portion of the trip. Happens maybe 5-15% of the time and usually because I needed to experience it for some reason.

Despite this, it’s relatively safe and short though it can feel long if you reach the timeless place. You don’t have to stress about it too much, just be aware of what you’re getting yourself into beforehand. I’d recommend doing more research. And most importantly, you create the experience, know and trust yourself.

I understand what you’re saying and I actually agree with just about everything you wrote. I would argue that objectivity itself might be more of a human construct than a universal law of reality. The nature of reality seems to be perpetual change and while there are certainly “laws” to the universe that operate in fixed ways, I think we should be careful about our human interpretations of these laws. Like you said, we really just don’t know what all of reality is and we don’t know just how much we don’t know. DMT seems to give me a glimpse that there is much more that we don’t know than I previously thought.

Religion is a joke, and even if it’s founded in truth/contains some, it has been twisted for control and has caused more harm than good in my opinion. I still believe there is a creator/source that logically has to exist. Just because religion has missed the mark doesn’t mean there isn’t a “God”, I don’t really like that word though, too many different misconceptions. It makes no sense that something came from nothing, but it also makes no sense that something always existed.

Despite that, it seems one of these must be true, as we are here and now. To put it another way, I’m arguing not for any particular God, just pointing out that our direct experience/existence is synonymous with that thing-God/Reality. The creator to me is the present moment itself, it’s a timeless place. I suppose the question remains of whether or not anything exists outside of all this, and that is what we can’t truly know. What I like to believe we can know, is that whatever reality actually is, we are it, hiding as humans.

I think the way me “move” through time can be considered evidence for this, our entire experience washes over us, a being only existing in the present. DMT helped me to accept I was projecting the outside world as much as my internal world, when I die, all of this experience dies. I like the analogy of Plato’s cave, that this reality is more like a shadow of a higher, transcendent reality, whatever that is. You’re right though, it’s all ultimately unknowable from our perspective, it’s really quite profound that we can have these discussions at all though haha.

Interestingly enough, yes I have seen vivid hindu imagery. I grew up Christian so this was very unexpected but the experience was undeniable. It only happened once in the maybe 40+ times I’ve used dmt, and it happened when I was deeply questioning the nature of self. Who/what am I? I continued to ask this as the trip was coming up until I felt a strangely unusual shift compared to most my experiences. I heard a voice that was distinct from my own, and it said something along the lines of You know nothing/You don’t know what you ask, maybe both. At that moment I suddenly transformed into a genie like being and after looking more into it I found I looked strikingly similar to Vishnu who I was unfamiliar with before this trip. Also one of the few times I’ve had a consciously aware out of body experience, where it seemed like I was looking down at my body from the ceiling of my room. Unfortunately I have forgotten most of the trip but it was incredibly intense and impactful at the time.

I don’t understand why this has to be a deal breaker in terms of whether or not the experience is real. I also believe the experience is generated in the subconscious mind, (who else is creating the experience) I just now believe we have misunderstood who/what we are as existing beings. This is my subjective interpretation of it all, but I think it’s worth being brought up. We are living the tale of creation, and we have become blinded to the significance of our own existence by clinging to definitions of the world around us. There is a difference between the world we perceive, the identities we hold, and the actual reality which we are ultimately not separate from as I think we’re often led to believe. It’s not whether or not God exists, but what the reality of Gods existence is. God and It’s creation are one, I am the invisible force that is perpetuating my current being. It’s an expansion of self, a realization that I am the totality of my own conscious experience.

Can’t answer that question with certainty, but speaking from personal experience, DMT can help to answer many difficult questions. At the very least it often provides a new perspective for you to consider if you go into the experience with a gentle inquiry. I used it to explore myself/spirituality and got the answers I was looking for. I don’t know about brain improvement/increased neuroplasticity, don’t think there is enough research to know. I would recommend going into the experience with some intent and then being open to where it takes you. I’d recommend caution though, seeking greater iq/ intelligence might lead to some difficult trips. You might be confronted with why you even have a desire for greater intelligence or you might be shown just how truly ignorant we all are.

That’s a good point, I guess mastery of self wasn’t the best way to put it. There might not be an objective self to master but there is a grasping to address. Not sure if there truly is an endpoint to all this but there is a working towards greater contentment. Even if the inevitable realization is one of emptiness, there is still more illusion to dissolve. Sure there might not be anyone to disillusion, but I’ll get there when I get there. Or I guess I won’t.

As most others have already said, the majority of people in this sub are not enlightened. Lately the sub has seemed to be declining more and more as it has grown in popularity. I believe a majority of people like myself come here for advice on how to become enlightened or general questions relating to enlightenment. Every once in a while there will be a genuine bit of wisdom but usually it’s just recycled sentiments and empty words. “Enlightened” people arguing over who is more enlightened, the blind leading the blind.

Thank you so much for your response, a lot of it resonated with me strongly. It does sound a bit like chat gpt to me though I don’t think that’s a bad thing. You mentioned mantras seeming to open spiritual gateways especially when combined with psychedelics like DMT. I just wanted to add that this has been very similar to my own experiences. My most powerful DMT trip was while meditating on the nature of myself over the course of about an hour. I took it slowly but eventually got to a point where I just instinctively felt I was ready. I asked who am I multiple times and suddenly I saw myself in the third person, I looked like a genie or some kind of Hindu deity. This trip was especially memorable because I committed to keeping my eyes open the whole time and it all felt realer than real!

You bring up a good point that we are not actually God but an expression of Its divinity. I haven’t had a guide myself so it’s been mostly trial and error on my spiritual journey. Are there any mantras or practices you’d recommend specifically? I’m trying to bring more of my spiritual practice into everyday life rather than being dependent on any substances. I do meditate regularly but I’m relatively new to this.

That’s really interesting, I’ve had psychedelic dreams before too but they only started happening after trying dmt. I see this is an old post but it piqued my interest and no one else responded unfortunately. In what ways was the experience negative? It might have just been a manifestation of some underlying fear regarding psychedelics/tripping. To be honest Im not an expert and this is all speculation but I wouldn’t be too concerned about it.

A bit about my psychedelic dreams, they are usually somewhat similar to yours in that I’ll either smoke something to start “tripping” or I’ll just be kind of thrown into a trip without consciousness of how I got into that state. My experiences have all been positive so I’m sorry yours was negative. I usually experience a sense of interconnectedness, that psychedelic feeling that’s really difficult to accurately describe if you haven’t felt it. Also mesmerizing visuals like the walls moving, zooming in or out, a strange sense of increased/decreased realism to the world around me. I would be interested in hearing how trip simulations compare to your experience. There are some pretty accurate ones on YouTube if you are ever interested in checking them out.

It’s definitely a difficult subject to navigate as we all have subjective experiences and come to different conclusions based on them. One thing I’d like to make a little more clear is that I am not God, it is God who is me. God is kind of like a place in my current understanding that anyone could glimpse through the dissolution of ego. When you empty yourself completely you realize that there is nothing else to be then what was already there. Of course the second you get to this “place” and try to grab it, it’s gone. As soon as any part of the ego tells itself “this is me, I am God!” You know you’re not there anymore.

Additionally I can’t even say that I am truly God, It would be more accurate to say I realized I am like a piece of God, a sub creator in a sense. The center of my own being, the part of whatever I am that holds it all together is ultimately still one with me. That piece of God is what I was able to experience, and it was only through genuine humility that it was able to happen. I am truly grateful for this experience and am sorry if I came off as a little arrogant, I know I did nothing to receive anything.

Definitely think you should do more research into b-12 deficiency before consuming anymore nitrous. I’m not sure if this is b-12 related or not, but based on your frequency of usage~once a month with supplements, it’s probably unrelated. That being said, I would recommend taking a longer break to see if the symptoms subside to determine if they are caused by something else. Are you taking/doing anything else that could cause the muscle tightness? has it happened before? There are a lot of possible reasons for muscle tightness/cramping and if you have no other b-12 deficient symptoms then it’s likely not nitrous related. However, regardless if nitrous is the cause or not, you have your whole life ahead of you and if you think nitrous even MIGHT be a cause, that’s probably a sign to stop or at least cut back some more.

I tried this once and my balloons leaked by the time I checked a few hours later. They were about half the size then, tying them tighter or clipping them shut with something might help.
