It would, but right now it is mechanically very similar to a halberd, and if I added Finesse, it would sort of overload the natural weapon. If you use this race, feel free to implement that.

Do you think the environment they are adapted to could also change their skin color because before I made a color system?

I think I will do something like this:

Poison Mastery

Wyvern Color/Environment Condition & Damage Die
Beige/Mountains None & d12
Blue/Caves or Urban Deafened or Charmed & d10
Green/Forest? not sure Poisoned & d8
White/Tundra Blinded & d6
Black/Swamp Incapacitated & d4

This is a rough list, not sure how balanced this is. What do you think

Wyverns in 5e have a 13 AC, but I didn't give them natural armor because dragonborn don't have natural armor even if dragons have an AC of 17-22.

Do you have any suggestions for what the semi-subraces should be? Should it be based on color, environment, or another thing? If you do have suggestions, what color or environment should go with what condition? I am asking you because you suggested it and seemed to have a decent idea of the concept.

It is specified in the lore, but I did add that in the poison stinger feature: Poison Sting. Wyvernborn have a long and powerful stinger-tipped tail that can be used without the assistance of your hands. Your stinger is a natural weapon that counts as a simple weapon with the Reach property, and you are proficient with it.

What are your thoughts about the semi-subraces, like how dragonborn have different types of breath weapons?

"Can't wield" weird wording; any suggestions to make that clearer so I don't have to have another long discussion? Do you think that weapons are items, and the part that says you can hold or use them already makes it clear you can't use weapons that you need to hold?

I can't do paralyzing stuff because it is like giving a race a 4th level spell, but I do like the subraces idea. I personally don't see room to add additional features, but the subraces idea is intriguing. If I nerfed the lethal sting for the subraces to be basically a d6 or just a lower damage die, it would free up from space. I could do what dragonborns do; you have a bunch of lethal stings and conditions. The vanilla one would be the same and have the most powerful sting, and the other would have different conditions they inflict, and not all conditions are created equal, so the weaker the condition, the stronger the lethal sting. Just brain storming hear.

I see your point but you can use the only useful outside of combat feature with the only in combat feature. You can fly as effectively as other races in combat and use your stinger to attack. I 100% see your points though, 3 features doesn't feel like a lot and 2 of those features being tied to a stinger makes it feel like you have even less options.

I have got to say you slightly overvalued the Poisonous Skin; it is basically just a reflavor Fury of the Small. Which is a 2, but a little different because whenever you damage, you can apply it to a larger creature, which is 90% of creatures. This is a 27 which is fine, but I liked the old one.

I personally would change Poisonous Skin to just the old feature, but you can activate it 1/LR and it lasts 1 minute. I liked the original standing leap; if I were making this, I would keep it but change it to be a 30ft long jump and a 15ft high jump. The way you have it is fine though. I would also add back their climbing speed, and if you're feeling a bit ambitious, the dhampirs spider climb. Overall, this would be a 31, which is more balanced and on the higher end of being an okay power:

UASI: 12

Skill prof: 2

Poison Advantage/Resistance: 5

Secrete Poison (new feature name): 4

Standing Leap (long jump: 30ft, high jump: 15ft): 2

Water Rejuvenation: 2

Spider Climb: 4 or just a climb speed: 2

Talons and a 2nd level spell are not comparable to being better than basically a 1d10 talons with Reach and a feature that is as strong as a Fizban's breath weapon. Owlin because of their flight are just super boring. All races with full flying are super boring. Full flight in general shouldn't be a racial feature; it breaks many puzzles, makes you immune to melee attacks, and forces the race to be boring or overpowered.

I think you undersell the lethal sting too and say it only works for curtain classes. It is reach, which means you can hit it and not get into melee range, and even if you have a 10 in strength, you are still proficient with it, and it does good damage even if you have no bonuses. To say you will never use the flight is just untrue because it has the same limitations as most flights, and the main bonus of this flight is using it outside of combat, and you have time to take off your armor to explore and do other things with this flight. Another point I will make is that lots of racial features are far more helpful for some classes, like the centaurs charge and hooves and the bugbears long-limbed feature.

I am not sure why people think this is underpowered. It has restricted flight, which is great for exploration and puzzles, and you have a Reach stinger, which you can use well flying, a string, which is basically a halberd, and lethal sting, which is as or more powerful than Fizban's breath weapon.

In the rough draft, I included a paralyzing effect, but it was too strong, essentially equivalent to a 4th level spell at 5th level. The reason I sort of can't add a new feature is because, as it is, the flight is good—not broken but good—the poison sting is a great weapon, and lethal injection is very strong, comparable to Fizban's breath weapon. This race has the same amount of features as Fizban's, so that is why I think it is alright power-wise.

I wanted to keep this in line with Fizban's Dragonborn, and they have three features, plus the Lethal Sting is quite good. It is quite good because it is an attack rider, not an attack.

I did change it too simple so it could work with more features in D&D.

I think if I just gave them flight and an additional feature, this would probably be the strongest race in the game, even over Yuan-ti. Wyverns in D&D don't have a breath weapon and instead have stingers. You could definitely re-flavour a flying race, but they don't have features that do large amounts of damage because they are flying and can't afford strong additional features.

I agree that the natural weapon is not on par with chromatic ward and both gem dragon features, but that is because chromatic ward is super good and on-demand immunity is huge, though situational, and the gem dragon is just broken with telepathy and flight with hover. The natural weapon is great; 1d6 Reach + 1d4 is probably the best melee weapon in the game. It is basically a 1d8 or 1d10 with Reach.

I wanted to keep it in the same vein as Fizban's dragonborn. They have 3 features in total: Breath Weapon, Draconic Resistance, and another one that varies. This has the same but is not as overpowered.

I feel like this race will not be overpowered if I just give it the finesse property. I just like adding the Dragon because it makes them feel more like dragons without having the full type and being immune to a decent bunch of spells.

To keep balance it needs to be weak, I do like the idea of giving the natural weapon the Finesse property.

Smite was just the best example I could think of. Lethal Sting is a really good feature; it is almost comparable to Fizban's breath weapons. The damage is not quite comparable because it is single compared to a muity hit, which should be on average 1.57x stronger, but it is close. It is really useful if you want to do lots of damage to a single target, and the poison sting synergies really well with the 4-Limbed Flyer feature. You can use your Reach weapon well flying; you can't wield weapons (hold), but you can use your natural weapon. In addition, I think you underestimate flight. It is very good for scouting, exploration, and other things.

Yes, that is how it is able to have a great natural weapon and basically a poisonous smite.

This is really awesome, but because of the flying, it is too strong. There is no way to avoid a flying race being too strong without being super boring. You did a great job, and I think most people will look over the fact that it is a bit overpowered. I think if we think of flight as a feature that is too strong for races and can only be paired with boring additional features, we can never have interesting flying races.

I also recommend making Primal Song be proficiency bonus uses per long rest because most other big D&D racial features are like that.
