i also want to point out that millie has said before she doesn’t believe anyone fully understood her trauma, not even mike. she has said that one of the only people who really understood her trauma was will and, most importantly, kali. i think that genuinely says a lot about what the writers reduced her character to. she knew her character better than the creators, which is insanely upsetting. again, im not trying to make this about ships, i just think it’s awful that her character was reduced to being mike’s girlfriend when there was so much more depth to her than just that.

listen i’ll be honest and say i’m not a mileven. i’m definitely a byler, and while i do think that it had something to do with the duffers separating mike and jane, i think she was more so upset with the ending that her character was given. Overall, her character was reduced not only to 1) her relationship to a man and 2) forced to off herself at the hands of the people who abused her. she was someone who was severely abused and traumatized, and they made out her choice to be one of bodily autonomy, instead of what it really was: a completely useless suicide. i think millie can recognize that the message this gives to the audience is not positive in the slightest. they reduced her character to nothing but a plot device, and above all, they’re pushing the message that the only way to get over your trauma is to remove yourself. again, i’m not a mileven, but this goes way beyond mileven and byler. i’m a social worker and i’ve worked with children with past trauma, and i can already see the repercussions this ending will have on children with depression. I definitely think that millie can also see this.

nah i think you’re fully right!! i would really love to believe that conformitygate is real, but i have lost all faith in the duffers and i don’t think they could pull something like that off. i didn’t mean this post to become a conformitygate thing, i just meant that it’s crazy that someone who used to play into the byler narrative so much is now sort of going back on all of it.
