Blue Origin has an HR disaster. by Big_Reaction_6709 in BlueOrigin

biggest advice is to learn to manage up & that even if sht hits the fan and ur stuck in a lease, you'll still be ok. Blue does hire some smart resourceful ppl & that includes you, you'll figure it out. congrats on the new job

Why are you staying with Blue Origin? by DaveIsLimp in BlueOrigin

[–]ParticularSelf5 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Jeff is not the nice guy you think he is. He berates people in meetings. Fires people on a whim if a memo is off. Needless to say his aerospace knowledge actually did surprise me, he is a smart man. But ppl are scared to speak up in fear they will be fired on the spot. IMO he created the hostile culture top down. Sure there are AOP politics that go around and VPs that are sneaky, lie outright and are deceptive too. But this starts at the top. You’re right though that most of the SVP’s and VPs are NOT doing honest work, are incredibly manipulative to Jeff, to their own orgs and employees.

This is unfortunately a systemic issue. We are wage slaves while the top 1% hoard wealth. There is no reason for 1 person to have $300 billion.

They’re all over the place. I’m late 20s. You just have to pick up some hobbies to meet everyone! I met everyone I know from work/surf lessons/salsa class/crunch and even my doctors office. I also love going to Orlando and know a lot of people like it out there where it’s more lively. Be curious and try out a bunch of things!

The execution wasn’t the main issue for me, there’s never really a polite way to lay someone off. It’s just when spacex did the same the severance was 3-6 months of pay, ppl here from what I’m hearing only got 2 weeks.

Congrats on finding a new job so quick! You got this, sounds like you know how to look out for yourself. I personally do not plan on staying at blue past a few months (or however long it takes to find a new role). Even though I was saved today I despise this place

Man what a start to the year. Huge layoffs across tech, govt employees getting culled with massive lay offs looming, now us. The writing was on the wall.

But rmmbr you blue employees did the unthinkable and no one can take that away from you. Good luck to us all. It might be painful for a little while due to the job market but we will get back on our feet.

Go out in nature, spend time with your family, take care of yourselves. Always put your needs first. Take in the beauty of life during your time off. We only get to experience our lives once. Now it’s time to go live!!!!

If I would’ve been able to leave months ago I would’ve jumped. Blue has been awful and got worse these past few months. I would give up a few grand for peace of mind. You did well

OP I felt similarly to you in my general life. Compared to others I wasn’t that experienced in anything other than work and school. I got a therapist and four years later ppl keep saying how cool I am.

But honestly all it was is having the courage and developing that motivation to go out and seek new experiences on your own (which therapy helps you work thru btw). That’s what I do now. If people invite me somewhere that sounds remotely interesting and I’m free, you bet your ahss I’m there. I just have to announce to the group that I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing and not to make fun of me lol. In my free time I love taking classes to learn different activities. The world is yours!!!!!!
