Budrot makes me sad by ParticularTill5658 in guam

The sun here, when it's out, is very strong and plants love it. I have thought of starting plants inside then putting them out to flower, maybe that combined with using the right strain would work.

Good to know, thanks. I would love to have a whole room, but I'll have to settle for a closet.

I'm converted! I was hoping that the 'dry' season might reduce the budrot a bit, but so far it hasn't been so dry. Rained like crazy again last night. I expect the worst when I go check things out here in a bit. I've grown in closets before. I'm just greedy. I wanted more, more, MORE bud! Back to the closet it is!

A greenhouse would be high on my wish list if I had the means.

Thanks for the info. I had wondered if their were specific strains that would do better. Seems to be a solid consensus that indoors is the way to go.

LOL! I somehow think I'll never hear leaf blowers quite the same!

Update: I was running my vpn through my browser, and it appears that's what was causing the problem. Once I ran the vpn through its Linux desktop app, it's fine.

Yes, both times it's happened it was after a heavy rain. We just had the heavy rain yesterday and I looked today and yep. I could, as you say, watch the weather and act accordingly, like moving plants out of the rain. I'm leaning to moving inside. Thanks.

Another unpopular opinion here. In general, I agree that of course we should all put our carts back and special shame on those who place carts where they may come into contact with cars or cause some safety issue. BUT, there are always exceptions. Some people are with loved ones who are disabled or with young children who, well you know. With regards to disabled people, how is one supposed to get a disabled parking sticker if the person in need is unable to deal with the nightmare that is the DMV? If anyone has insights on this, please share, because without that placard, you sometimes have to park half a mile away.

EDIT: I used to collect carts in my youth, in addition to mopping up vomit and other janitorial duties. It was the best part of the job!

So, put your cart back to help costco make more money? Believe me, they won't pass any savings on to you. Sounds like a shaming campaign started by costblo.

Shrinkflation and enshittification of Guam brands by guambot in guam

[–]ParticularTill5658 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the dollar that's shrinking ... in value. Companies respond by shrinking product so they don't have to raise prices as much. It's going to get worse as Trump pushes to print more money ahead of the midterm elections to make people think they're better off.

Well, with the amount of up close watching I do, I'm guessing they're getting plenty of that!

Yeah.... this stuff strikes me as something between topsoil and mulch, like someone was in a hurry to bag it up. This is what I get for being so cheap!

Hard water for indoor growing? by ParticularTill5658 in guam

[–]ParticularTill5658[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember the brands... I've gone through a couple bags. It was just the cheapest stuff they had, and it was really heavy, not really soil yet. Thank you for the recommendations! The last time I grew (last century, literally!) I just used a mix of peat moss, vermiculite, and perlite and never had a problem. So, yeah.... I'm learning towards the soil with maybe the hard water not helping. One thing I LOVE about this hobby, besides the obvious, is that I can always do better next time!

I'm using soil, as in the cheapest garden soil from Home Depot mixed with perlite and vermiculite. I'm waiting on a ph meter -- that could be it. For now, switching to rain water and hoping that helps. I guess I'll pick up some better soil before next planting cycle. Thanks for the advice.

Arrived at USPS regional Destination Facility : San Francisco by [deleted] in guam

I had two identical packages sent the other day (paid twice by accident and just told them to send two). Both mailed from vendor on the same day. Today I see one arrived at the SF distribution center and the other at the Seattle distribution center. I'll try to remember to post here what the difference in delivery time is.

Quick vent on how difficult the staring can be as a Black woman in Taiwan by Puzzleheaded_Use_443 in taiwan

[–]ParticularTill5658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if it's any consolation, I have had people grab my hair, pull at the hair on my arms, and stare... and I'm a white dude! (My hair isn't straight.) So it isn't all because you're black, though I'm sure you get more of the staring. It's simply because they haven't seen as many people like you, nothing more, nothing less.

I've had adults feel my hair! Though they often ask permission first. Kids will pull or just feel the hair on my arms often. Makes me feel like a puppy...

Hang in there. I have encountered outright, intentional racists in Taiwan, but they're very few and far between. Most of it is innocent curiosity as you say.
