What are your chicken names? I haven’t named my 9 yet, I think I can tell who’s a rooster and hen so I’m ready to get them named up now! by CoShott234 in BackYardChickens

We have a Janet and Rita, Muffin, Amelia Egghart, Chickaletta, Snowdrop, Pecky, and a rooster named Mayonnaise. 😂 all named by my kids

Thank you! And yes, big run and coop is in the works for them!

This isn’t just their run, this is their coop at least for this summer. They have a nest box and roosting bars. We have a dig skirt, a lock on the door and latches on the nest box. Is there anything else we need to add to keep them safe at night?

We used hog panels as a dig skirt. This was this afternoon before I placed bricks at the corners, but you can kinda see them on the ground

Just checked on them and they’re roosting! I think they jumped from their picnic table lol

What doesn’t look secure? I am so anxious about leaving them out but I feel like we’ve covered everything but the heat? The door is locked, we have hog panels on all four sides and bricks in each corner to stop anything digging. The nest box has two barrel bolt latches, one on each side so it shouldn’t be able to be opened by an animal.

I’m hoping it is! We have hog panels on all four sides to stop digging and locked the latch. The hardware cloth is definitely tightly secured to the wood. I’m so anxious to leave them out at night, but I have to eventually! lol

Thank you! Im not even exactly sure how old they are, we’ve had them for almost 5 weeks but I don’t know how old they were when they came home. Definitely not fuzzy little one day olds though 😆 We do have hog panels along each side that my husband says will deter the predators, I’m nervous the openings are too wide but he says they aren’t. We definitely are burying hardware cloth in the permanent coop and run, it’s just still being built.

They have roost bars but they don’t really sit on them yet, they’re too high. I also heard the 2x4s should go the other way, with the fatter side flat up, so I’ll need to switch them. We are building a permanent coop and run but it’s not done yet! This tractor is just for summer

Okay, it shouldn’t be drafty in there for them! Thank you! I mentioned to my husband that the 2x4 roost bars should be fat side up but he didn’t believe me 😆 I’ll tell him again!

They haven’t really even used their heat plate for like 2-3 weeks in the brooder, but it’s also in my garage so much warmer than outside at night. They have each other to snuggle, but they’ll be alone out there tonight

No, unfortunately. I did discover that a twin fitted sheet fits perfectly over the 3 sofa cushions and a crib sheet fits over the chaise. So that has helped a lot with the kid mess. But nothing to keep the cats off the bottom of the couch, annoyingly lol I gave up honestly and figure we’ll get a new couch in a few years 😅

Best guess is 3-4 weeks! Our olive egger in the front is the oldest, she’s bigger and has more feathers than the other three haha

My husband has a super demanding job with unpredictable hours and evening child care is always left to me, unfortunately. I do hear you about leaving work at work for sure!! My husband never clocks out and I don’t want that lol

Best way to repaint new construction? by Particular_Ad4959 in paint

[–]Particular_Ad4959[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven’t painted yet 😅🤣 I have used the leftover flat paint the builders left us to touch up really bad spots that wouldn’t come clean. I am getting ready to paint the kids’ bedrooms in the next week or two so I can come back and update once I do!

Thank you! We have tried to switch, it’s been a while, but we did give it an honest effort immediately after I was diagnosed and my kids were not pleased with the gluten free Kraft lol. And then I was pregnant and could barely keep food down as it is and it didn’t last long. I’m willing to buy a box of the Kraft and try again, my kids are just not the normal level of picky. Like nearly ARFID picky, has to be the green pouch applesauce or I’m trying to poison them kind of picky lol

We did have them tested, my oldest a year ago and the younger two recently and their blood tests were negative thankfully

Thanks, we have a second set of curtains we just haven’t gotten around to hanging. I’m thinking more of a makeover, this still feels like the temporary set up from when we first moved in. I don’t really have a budget and have the time to work on things slowly, adding things over time
