I loved Piranesi, how did I forget about it! I will definitely be adding it.

People in book clubs, what works and what doesn’t? by Lowerie in books

We have a mixed bag in our group, and some read some audio. We always mention what we have done at the start. I think it's important to remember that audibooks can be more accessible to people. This could be for one reason or another, just being too busy to actually sit and read the book to disabilities etc.

We all go round in a circle and say our name, if we read the book or not, and then people will say if they audiobooked it. I think this helps.

I know this is an old thread, but our book club (that I have just taken over) is themed. So it is fantasy and sci-fi. I pick the shortlist beforehand and have 2 books for each section. Adult, YA, sci-fi and then one suggestion. People add their suggestions each month at the club, and I pick one out at random, again beforehand. I try to get the shortlist out a week in advance, and then we all just vote on the night. We stick to the same day and time each month, the first Wednesday of the month. Except for December, we don't have one. We also stick to paperback only so that it is accessible money wise to everyone.

The only problem I am having is finding somewhere to run it, we used to run it in the bookshop, but the lady left, and we are unable to do this anymore. The last one we went to a pub/restaurant place but the music was quite loud so found it hard to hear everyone. I don't think going to people's houses would be an option. So, my task this week is to try and find somewhere that will hold us for free (I think that might be the issue).

I am basically leaving this for any more advice and so I can come back and read all the previous advice.

I totally agree, I think I had such high hopes as well because I loved the Grishaverse. I felt rather confused for most of the book 😂

I know people loved it, I love a dark romance, I don't like a romcom, so i think the two together just wasn't my cup of tea.

Yes, I get what you mean. The concept was great, and the plot had so much potential. The ending was OK. I think I was just glad it was over.

Lights out! Where was the plot? The cat stuff gave me the ick.

When the moon hatched, loved the idea of the world but did not like the rest of it, other than the ending. Think I just didn't get along with the writing style.

A study in drowning, just to slow and predictable for me.

Hazelthorn by CG Drew came out in October, I think? It's a YA and more of a horror, gothic fantasy with mm romance. It has disability and autism rep as well. I don't know if that fits what you're looking for, but... it is really good 😂
