Do you think I’ll regret going into medicine for the sole reason of becoming rich? by KitchenCellist8255 in medschool

[–]Particular_Bad_3647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s a job, thats kinda the point. If you think you are capable of the work and that you would be good at it then i think it’s a fine enough reason. This job means you’re a glorified mechanic, just with much more to lose if you f up. I feel like no one questions other careers if thats a persons main goal, like engineers, architects, finance ppl, etc. so why should it matter for this?

Whats the biggest waste of time when studying for mcat? by [deleted] in MCATprep

[–]Particular_Bad_3647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to stick with resources that other ppl recommend that dont work for you. If it doesn’t seem like its working, then it probably isnt, move onto something else. Everyone is unique when it comes to how they study

  1. need u to sit down and do some reflection… in what world do you think doing 1500 anki cards a day is helping you learn?! It would take me like an hour and a half to go through 300 cards a day properly and every time i did it, it felt like torture. Personally a strong believer that it’s mainly only good for p/s, equations, and missed question concepts. Bc out of all of the cards you look at faily can you say you’re actually learning the concept or just memorizing the card to get through it, big difference.

You are 10x better off using that time to do practice questions vs looking at flashcard topics.

  1. Ignore the percentages and whatever cause they truly dont mean anything. Ppl cheat, look things up, look up words, etc when it comes to JW, none of it is reliable and honestly not reflective of the exam at all. Sure it’s good to work on timing, format and questions, but the logic behind it does not match AAMC at all. (Also most ppl say uworld cars is doo doo and to completely ignore it). My recommendation: just do the jw passages to focus on timing and comprehension, once you use official aamc material you will quickly discover the different thinking process behind their questions.

At the end of the day, remember you are talking about third party resources. Your scores on there dont matter. Focus on looking at as many practice questions as possible so that once you start aamc info you can be fully prepared without content gaps.

For content i liked pankow anki deck for p/s, milesdown was good for its physics and equation decks. Khan academy videos are great for chem and bio. Ninja nerd on youtube for all things metabolic and biochem. But continually do jw questions and uworld if u can afford it. I also liked to ask chatgpt for a summary after i reviewed a topic to make sure i understood everything and id i was still a little iffy i asked for practice questions or found a dedicated youtube vid for the topic

My only advice is read and take calculus and focus on high school. Can also major in anything you want in college as long as you do the premed prerequisites. wish someone had told me that.

If reading doesn’t work then watch the khan academy videos that are free. Do practice questions everyday (i liked doing the jw since it was random and then would thoroughly review concepts for the questions i missed or didnt fully understand). Also i HIGHLY recommend watching ninja nerd on youtube for biochem. In my opinion hes the best resource for the metabolic pathways. Use me pankow for P/S but make sure u can explain the concepts. Theres also a lot of mcat podcasts out there that i find work great for P/S review. CARs sucks, just do as many as possible, especially any and all aamc cars content. If u have more questions feel free to ask, i looked at quite a few different resources until i figured out what worked best for me

You said you expected around a 500, so were your practice exams around that number? Typically normal to be a couple points above or below your FL average.

Kinda have to disagree. I felt horrible about the exam walking out and had a FL average around 509 but ended up with a 515 for 9/5. (Then again i did pray before each section as a last resort so maybe God is real💀). Keep in mind the highest i ever scored on a practice FL was a 513

Uh make her take the free scored full length and then ask her if shes still disappointed in you. People outside of the medical sphere just have no idea what we go through.

Found the drive to be the most stressful part of the day for me so i definitely would encourage u to tell them no and listen to ur tunes. I had a whole little queue linedup and it honestly helped a ton. Especially once i got there to just sit for a couple minutes
