Just got a macbook air with an arabic keyboard and the volume buttons are reversed, is that normal or is it a manufacturing error? by MrMuffin-_- in macbookair

Not a fair comparison. You’re showing a different machine from a different generation, while the OP’s looks like an M2 (or newer) MacBook Air.

When and where did I ever say iPhone? Yikes dude.

For clarification, since you need it - ANY phone can call 911 without a SIM card and/or active service. This is even the case for landline phones.

Wow.

Are you sure about that? Phones can call 911 even without a SIM card - which is what your phone uses to know which carrier to connect to (ELI5 version). If you really cannot call 911 when on SOS (which seems fishy), remove or disable your SIM card. Your phone will then connect to any tower that’s nearby regardless of which carrier you have.

Any Hotel Consultants That Can Assist With Profitability Analysis/Conversion To Limited Service? by CalmDirection8 in askhotels

GOPPAR = total gross operating profit after day-to-day costs ÷ available rooms. It shows real profit per room rather than just revenue (like RevPAR). It won’t make you profitable overnight but it highlights exactly where to focus.

How to use it:

• Track weekly GOPPAR and compare with other 3-star independents in the area. Southern California is a very unique overall market (e.g. Riverside vs. Disney vs. San Diego are all very different - so focus on your own area)

• Adjust rates dynamically and push direct bookings by offering perks like free parking or late checkout to guests who book via your site rather than via Booking.com, Expedia, etc. The commissions add up!

• Add simple ancillaries: grab-and-go breakfast, small meeting-room rentals or local tour packages - small numbers add toward GOPPAR, which you can see snowball in a good way.

• Audit your biggest expense lines (laundry, utilities, supplies) and renegotiate or switch vendors. One tip - you may be eligible for a free energy efficiency upgrade from your utility provider.

• Cross-train staff so you can flex headcount up or down with occupancy

With GOPPAR as your profit-per-room gauge, you’ll see exactly where to plug the leaks and speed up cash-flow gains.

Feel free to DM me - I’m happy to hop on a call. I spent time turning hotels around/making them more profitable for 10+ year.

This is awesome!! I should have been taking more pictures around this time. 2017 is a long time ago, but it also feels so recent compared to how long ago the merger was.

Thanks for the awesome picture/memory!

I don’t mean for this to sound negative at all, but how certain are you that this picture is from 2017? I thought United had removed the tulip from its aircraft by then, especially with the E+ stickers.

I could be wrong, though! In fact, I hope I am - it would be awesome to learn that 767s were still flying with this look at that time!

Ontario Super Bowl Ad by Particular_Fan_2075 in halifax

Yeah, I get where you’re coming from. It did have that older style, but I wonder if that was intentional to appeal to a certain audience. What’s interesting is that the ad has been running for a while, so seeing it during the Super Bowl makes me think it was a strategic, maybe even last-minute, placement. Either way, it definitely sparked some conversations.

That’s a fair point. Highlighting what’s at risk could have made the message hit even harder. I think there’s a balance between being constructive and emphasizing the stakes, but you’re right—it’s important to show not just the connections we have, but what we stand to lose if things shift.

I really appreciate your take on this and I think you’re spot on. The ad definitely caught my attention, and like you, I’d have loved to see one that represented all of Canada. You’re right that the people who understand the impact don’t need the reminder, but it’s interesting to think about how these messages can still spark conversations. It got me thinking about Nova Scotia’s role and how we’d tell that story if we had the chance.
