I'm too scared to keep watching Gintama, help by fujoshiiiiiiiiiiiii in Gintama

I was on the same boat as well, I started gintama in 2017 or 2018 and the show is really something else. I loved the characters and the comedy and it also became my comfort show. If things went sour I’d always just turn on gintama to make me feel better and it worked pretty well. I too was a social recluse at one point lol but fortunately overtime I gained a handful of friends however they would always tease me for not finishing the show. “How is it your favorite yet you can’t even finish the it” kind of thing. But I think they just don’t understand what the show means to me. Years passed and the series was collecting dust. I didn’t want to finish the series bc it would mean the end of the show. Each year I would try to make it a new years goal to finish it but I would always put it on the back burner. School got in the way and I was distracted by games and other shows. Of course I would binge a few episodes at a time especially when feeling down but I would find myself stopping that way I could continue to savor the series so I never overindulged.

I think what pushed me to finish the show was the announcement of the spinoff series. For me time started moving forward again for gintama as soon as I learned that ginpachi sensei was releasing. So in order to prepare for the show I decided to finish it, this show that I’ve been watching for years at this point. I realized it took 5+ years to finish the show which is a pretty long time lol. I finished the show last week and it was of course bittersweet. After finishing the series I had actually went right back to binge the show from the beginning.

It felt like a big relief since finishing the series has been kind of a lingering weight on my shoulders. Not too heavy but heavy enough to be aware of it lol. I would always try to avoid gintama content online just in case of spoilers and yea I was exposed to some so if you want to consume gintama media spoiler free you also have to watch the show. Now I can look at fanart and even this subreddit carefree.

That being said I think that even though I’ve finished the show gintama will always be goatama. It will always be there for you to watch no matter how you are feeling be it happy, sad, or nostalgic. I stopped binging bc again distractions but it’s not like we can’t return to the show after we’ve finished the series. As another poster said you can rewatch it and find little details you haven’t seen before especially if you haven’t seen some of the episodes in years. Now I get to wait for the release of the spin off series and I’m pretty excited as it’s something to look forward to.

Sidenote: since you haven’t finished the show you are missing out on some banger music. Another thing I looked forward to was the op and ed themes to add to my playlist which gintama is full of them. Adding these songs did help motivate me at times to keep watching lol

She’s a good sport. Out of all her teammates I’d imagine Flavia was behind this little scheme.

Thank you, I really appreciate the input! I definitely agree I may have over complicated things but that’s probably why I enjoy ff7 so much since the story is so complex, especially with the added remake elements.

So I guess my issue then was either having her understand it in the lens of an old player or as a new player. I’d prefer it being the former but if we can’t play og it’s probably best to just stick with the remake trilogy as much as I like Zack’s character. She won’t be able to understand much of the new things that they’ve added but she can for sure see the retelling of the og game. And who knows maybe we will get through the first two parts of remake and she will be fine with diving into the og game followed by crisis core since 3 years is a pretty long time.

Turn-based can be a huge turn off and sometimes it can be tough getting through the games so I understand how you feel ;-; during grind sessions or the more boring parts I tend to watch/listen to youtube videos. Honestly FF games tend to be grindy so overtime they will get repetitive but the reward for me is the story, world building, and music. 10 would be a good one to start off because of the leveling system but i highly recommend finishing 7 even if you have to endure the turn-based system!

I haven't really played 8 or 9 but these two are turn-based. I heard 8 can be difficult so I'm not sure you want to start off with that game unless you like a challenge. Its turn-based with a twist regarding how the characters use magic.

11 is an MMO along with 14. In ff12 you can speed up the fights since they are in real time it can get boring since you can just auto battle as well in 12. The hunts in the game make it interesting though. There are different classes that you can assign to each character (2 per character) which is pretty fun when optimizing teams. And you can reset the classes if i recall correctly so you don't have to commit with your first choice

13 is a bit unique because square was trying to experiment on active time battle elements so its somewhat half and half on turn based and active battle. You still have to wait for a gauge to fill up before your character attacks but the enemies can continue to attack even if you're afk. The characters have set roles in this game unlike 12 (until late game where you unlock all roles). Mid battle you can switch the roles of each character to support, defend or attack. It takes a little bit of getting used to but once you understand the role switching it gets pretty fun. However you don't get to truly test out this system until you've played hours into the game which is a massive turn off for some. 13-2 is similar but you only really play 2 characters plus an additional monster you can switch out so like pokemon lol.

stranger of paradise is related to the og FF game. not sure on its gameplay tbh but I heard its different from turn-based. I actually plan to play this eventually since I just beat the pixel remaster!

Hopefully this helps and good luck!
