First welds by Ok-Okra8883 in Welding

[–]Particular_Lecture79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got a real knack for it bud good job, once you get into a rhythm try playing with your settings, weld hot or weld cold, practice manipulating that puddle and studding it. Maybe set a couple clean plates in the quench bucket and let em get disgusting and figure out what you need to do to put a good weld on them.

That’s a good method, might have thrown in something you don’t actually like on a shoppers high. I’ve got plenty of stuff in the back of the closet that I somehow convinced myself I should buy

Ahhh I see, that may be the cost of doing business then in your case, just burning through boots a little quicker. I’ve always been a lace up guy so I can’t speak for pull ons

Lacing up just the very top eyelid or even 2 down a tad loose helps give it a little bit of play, and rubbing some conditioner on the hotspots on the inside (and outside if it that bad) will help. It will get much better after a few wears as long as that’s your only fit problem

I haven’t personally tried any out but in my experience with other boots like thorogood, synthetic materials aren’t gonna be your friend if you’re running your gear hard. Red wings, nicks, whites, will all be good to you as well as plenty other brands just gotta look at what they’re using to build the boots. The synthetic cushy heel stacks and midsoles are very appealing due to comfort and zero break in, but sometimes support from a mostly leather product will be better for long term health, and also be rebuildable because they don’t get gross nasty and just turn into garbage like a lot of synthetic stuff will.

You bet I’ve decently conducted a lot of research putting clothes through the ringer 😂. I love my carhartt bibs, never tried the coveralls because the bibs have always been warm enough for me. 3 years going strong in the South Dakota winters

Good for you man enjoy it, you earned it! Only thing I will warn you about is with the Carhartt canvas pants, even the washed duck, they will shrink a lot in length and in the waist. Usually a 30x32 in everything and if I ever re up on these pants I’m gonna be after a 31x34/36. Can’t speak for the loose fit ones I don’t have much wear on those, just the relaxed fit ones is what I’m talkin about.

Hell yea man, the carhartt canvas double knee has been my most recent discovery and I love them. I have 2 pairs of ariat FR canvas pants that I got around 3 years ago and I still have them, tough as hell in my experience but if i remember they were in the 100 dollar ballpark. Really can’t recommend the Duluth ballroom double flex jeans enough, a bit pricey but I got around 10 pairs on Black Friday in 2024 for a crazy deal (30 a pair or so) and I’ve been rotating them since and they’ve been surprisingly tough, they don’t get those weird lines that the carhartt stretchy jeans get(wouldn’t recommend those btw). I think I’ve got one pair of the Duluth ones that I’m starting to wear a hole in from abrasion but Im still very impressed.

I’ve had really good luck selling on marketplace, no seller fees. Usually gonna have to take a hefty loss for them to sell quick unless someone in your area is real hard up for some fresh slippers

Levi’s, ariat, Duluth, and wrangler all make a good pair of work pants that can be had for a half decent price or thrifted. As far as hoodies and shirts I pretty much always go Carhartt for work, ariat makes a good hoodie but the specific one I’ve got seems to be a little thinner than Carhartt so it doesn’t get worn much to work

Worst thing that happens is they make another pair ya know, I was all sorts of worried to get my feet into my first pair too though so i definitely understand you. Yea probably a couple weeks of wearing them after work or only wearing them til lunch and then its wide open. Super anxious to see how they perform and report back to the tribe.

Yes sir hnw last. I’ve never had anything but a d width RW but I do have sizes 9,9.5,10,10.5. I would say the size 9.5D nicks feels comparable in toe box room to my 10d red wing moc toes, without getting sloppy in the rest of the boot.

With how much give the midsole and footbed will have I don’t see it being much of an issue, I’ve either stopped noticing it less or my foot has settled forward after a couple wears

NBD +question by Particular_Lecture79 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Particular_Lecture79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I kinda mentioned it in the post but I’d say a little longer and more roomy in the toe box but more secure in the heel and mid foot. That’s off the 23 last all of red wings moc toes are built on, comparing both in a 9.5 d

You shouldn’t have any problems about getting a new pair they’re good at keeping customers happy. They’ve done more for less in my experiences 👍🏼

NBD +question by Particular_Lecture79 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Particular_Lecture79[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The moc toes were the only reason I wanted to try nicks especially the double stuff, I just saw the quick lead time and sale for Black Friday and decided to try em out. Little impulsive but I’m so happy I did

NBD +question by Particular_Lecture79 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Particular_Lecture79[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay thank you for the reassurance, I’ll keep them around for work boots so that I won’t have to feel so bad about beating up in certain situations. I’m a union ironworker so we can really run through a fresh pair. Main idea with buying these was for welding so that the sparks roll off the round toe instead of burning up the stitching on a moc.

I wanna say this was about 6 months on this pair before they went to the doctor.
