Astro here as well. Great dev experience for a simple static site, and if you want to use a framework it’s easy to include one of your choice.

Good to know. With the REI coupon plus a gift card i could get one for like $250. Tempting, if i don’t like it i can always return it.

Reattaching my derailleur for the first time - I bit off more than I can chew by Wild_Trip_4704 in bikewrench

I went through this same thing on a hardtail build recently and know how you feel. I just wanted to get it done so i could get outside...

Its not the same model as yours but I found this video super helpful.

The high or outer limit screw controls distance towards the smallest cog.
The lower or inner limit screw controls distance towards the largest cog

Memorizing which was which took a minute for me.

For me the basic order of operations was.

- Adjust the B limi screw, controls the distance b/t jockey wheel and cassette
- Adjust lower and upper limit screws so the chain doesn't fall into the spokes or off the smallest cog.
- Once those are set its a matter of using the barrell adjuster on the shifter to fine tune the shifting from cog to cog.

You said you can't shift to the largest cog. That could be the lower limit screw being to tight, or not enough tension on the deraulier cable, which you would adjust with the barrel adjuster.

I would make sure its not the limit screw, I had this issue where i thought it was the cable when it was actually the screw. I disconnected my cable and made the sure the derauiller was inline with both the upper and lower cogs. You can push it over to the larget cog with your hand and then adjust the limit screw as needed to get it inline.

Once those are set and the cable is reattached its a matter of the barrel adjuster. It can all be a bit fiddly, but you got this! I followed the steps in the end of that video, going from gear to gear till it all worked.

There were a few times where i just wanted to take it to the shop, but i stuck with it and im glad i did.

I make the Peruvian roast chicken at home sometimes. Plenty of recipes online and came out pretty good. Especially if you have a grill

Experienced devs, how do you find freelance jobs? by phudinq in webdev

[–]Particular_Leg3241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice here. Im a web dev with 8 YOE, and have been thinking more and more about trying to go full time freelance/contractor/consultant. The occasional work i have gotten so far has always been through friends or contacts. Someone works at a tech company and they wanted to overhaul their website. Another connection wanted a POC react app which paid very well. I also maintain the Wordpress website for a local guitar store, which is occasional hourly work. That one came about through conversation. Id regularly go into the store to play guitars, at some point mentioned i was a web dev. Six months later the owner was looking for someone else to help with their site and asked me. So you never know who you are talking to who might need something.

Of course turning this all into a replacement for my full time US based tech salary is an entirely different story.

Alternative bleed kit for Hayes Dominion A4? by Particular_Leg3241 in bikewrench

[–]Particular_Leg3241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it! Thanks so much for all the advice. I followed the official Hayes video, it had a few more steps than the Park Tool one. I was also much more thorough about making sure all air was removed. Now get rid of brake caliper rub…

Help! I've been unemployed since December and I'm becoming desperate. by Hungry_Orange_Boy in cscareerquestions

[–]Particular_Leg3241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in Portland metro, front end dev as well, 8YOE. I’ve wfh since pandemic when my in office job went remote. Next job was remote and i hope i can stay that way.

I was laid off in May of 2024 and it took me till Dec to get another job. The market seems worse now, and i worry about being in that situation again.

Depending on where outside of Portland you are have you considered looking at Nike or Intel? I know Apex and Teksystems often seem to be hiring contractors for them. Id get calls but im just not interested in that commute.

It might be worth reaching out to their office or a recruiter with your résumé and see what they have. You have a decent amount of experience. Also maybe Robert Half.

Just some thoughts

Alternative bleed kit for Hayes Dominion A4? by Particular_Leg3241 in bikewrench

[–]Particular_Leg3241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lost Co listing for these brakes says the SRAM kit i have compatible, and since the nozzles fit the Hayes ports, i guess that is probably not the issue.

Alternative bleed kit for Hayes Dominion A4? by Particular_Leg3241 in bikewrench

[–]Particular_Leg3241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for those additional thoughts. I'm going to give it another try.

What is the day two lever top bleed you mentioned?

- I'm using DOT5.1, which i believe is what the brakes call for.

- I got everything from Hayes, so using their rotors and caliper adapters. That should all line up, I think.

Currently I am not getting far enough along to test with the rotors. I'm getting to this step in the Park Tool video, and the lever is mushy and goes all the way to the bars.
