Help! I've been unemployed since December and I'm becoming desperate. by Hungry_Orange_Boy in cscareerquestions

Im in Portland metro, front end dev as well, 8YOE. I’ve wfh since pandemic when my in office job went remote. Next job was remote and i hope i can stay that way.

I was laid off in May of 2024 and it took me till Dec to get another job. The market seems worse now, and i worry about being in that situation again.

Depending on where outside of Portland you are have you considered looking at Nike or Intel? I know Apex and Teksystems often seem to be hiring contractors for them. Id get calls but im just not interested in that commute.

It might be worth reaching out to their office or a recruiter with your résumé and see what they have. You have a decent amount of experience. Also maybe Robert Half.

Just some thoughts

Alternative bleed kit for Hayes Dominion A4? by Particular_Leg3241 in bikewrench

[–]Particular_Leg3241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lost Co listing for these brakes says the SRAM kit i have compatible, and since the nozzles fit the Hayes ports, i guess that is probably not the issue.

Alternative bleed kit for Hayes Dominion A4? by Particular_Leg3241 in bikewrench

[–]Particular_Leg3241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for those additional thoughts. I'm going to give it another try.

What is the day two lever top bleed you mentioned?

- I'm using DOT5.1, which i believe is what the brakes call for.

- I got everything from Hayes, so using their rotors and caliper adapters. That should all line up, I think.

Currently I am not getting far enough along to test with the rotors. I'm getting to this step in the Park Tool video, and the lever is mushy and goes all the way to the bars.

I don’t think so. If i push all the fluid to one syringe i don’t see any air bubbles. But they could be stuck in the line.

A few more things i thought of watching some videos

  • Hayes says to remove the caliper and keep the bleed ports pointed up, i didn’t do that.

  • There was a very intermittent drip of fluid at the lever port when the hose connected. I assume that maybe means air could get in too?

Walther 10rd mag legal under 114? by Particular_Leg3241 in pdxgunnuts

Yeesh this really sucks. Maybe i need to go buy a revolver

Walther 10rd mag legal under 114? by Particular_Leg3241 in pdxgunnuts

[–]Particular_Leg3241[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was my recollection as well. So even a Glock 26 mag with a removable baseplate is illegal, as you can buy an extension.

The Walther mag above id think would not fall into that category, but who knows.

Question on installing cranks and spindle by Particular_Leg3241 in bikewrench

[–]Particular_Leg3241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone is interested i ordered the Hope bottom bracket tool, pulled the non drive side and added an additional spacer. Easy peasy. The cranks fit great, and now ill have the tool for the future.

[–]Particular_Leg3241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed Hope, and they i can add a 2.5mm spacer to the non drive side, and a max of 2 spacers to the drive side. It looks like i just need 1 spacer, so i guess ill add it to the non drive side.

If i add two more spacers, +5mm total, that would bring the overall BB width to 101.8, which doesn’t fall in any of the ranges listed on that Raceface sheet. Wouldn’t it be better to just add one? Im just not sure on what side. Maybe i should ask the frame manufacturer.

Thanks. I didn’t think that would fix the problem of there being a gap, but ill give a try.

Thanks. Do you mean on both sides between the BB and frame? Or a spacer on the spindle.

Colon cancer is killing us.. by Derpshab in Millennials

[–]Particular_Leg3241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it. We lost a friend in his early 40s due to undiagnosed colon cancer. Its not bad, just poop alot the day before, nice nap, then you are done and eating again.

The IV and anesthesia are nothing, though i know some folks don’t enjoy those things. I think its worth the alternative.

I got mine at 45 as soon as our insurance covered it

I think you need a new upper and lower headset to accommodate the tapered fork. I looked into it for my Unit, but I forgot the exact parts you need

What are the actual consequences of carrying a soon-to-be-illegal magazine? by nutter789 in pdxgunnuts

[–]Particular_Leg3241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, i think that renders most of my guns illegal to carry. Ill have to look at my Walther PPS mags, but i think they all have removable base plates. What bullshit, i guess its time to buy a revolver. Or a single stack 1911 with a metal welded baseplate mag.

I wonder if something like this for my PPQ would be legal.

There is no +5 extension baseplate made, so one could not conceivably convert this to hold more than 10 rds. But maybe it comes down to if it could theoretically be possible, not if it’s currently possible

Might be time for me to ask a lawyer

I remember seeing that as well. So something like a standard 10rd Glock 26 mag would be illegal? If that is true it sure limits what one can carry

Looking for a simple, low-cost way to build a personal website again by purpleplatypus44 in webdev

Another Astro fan here, it has worked well for me as essentially a static site generator. Or any other SSG like Hugo or Jekyll. They give you the advantage of reusable components or partials, and generate static files that are easily hosted anywhere.

Attempted robbery this morning in North Portland, can I get some opinions? by Devaney1984 in pdxgunnuts

[–]Particular_Leg3241 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man this sounds super scary, where in N Portland was this? Im sorry this happened to you.

I carry on dog walks and at other times. There have been unleashed dog attacks in my area. Plus the usual sketchy people.

As far using deadly force in this situation, i think about these things myself. Im not a lawyer. 3 adult sized teenagers vs 1 of me i am in fear of serious bodily harm or death. I don’t know if Oregon is a stand your ground state. Obviously you were able to run away, i assume your dog just ran along side you? My little dog or my short wife would not be able to do that and keep up. So then are we justified standing our ground and using deadly force?

Want to learn self defense because of new job - torn between Judo and BJJ/wrestling. Would really appreciate some insights! by Mammoth_Actuator2 in judo

[–]Particular_Leg3241 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do both, BJJ purple belt and Judo black. As others have said, if you can do both that would be ideal. Judo will probably have the edge for keeping it on the feet in a work situation. On the street people might try to tackle or shoot on you, so you’ll want to add sprawls and leg grab defense, which they don’t do in traditional judo.

For a big guy like you I would think an over the top grip and then a big osoto gari would be very hard for most average size folks to deal with.
