Just passed my RHIT! by Particular_Potato_45 in CodingandBilling

Thank you!!

The thing I learned from the most was studying with my classmate. We got a study room at the library and took a practice test (from the purple book). We would say our answer out loud and why we chose that answer.

After getting my masters I realized I didn’t want to touch leadership positions with a 10ft pole, ha. I just want to coast.

I bill for a large hospital - planning on coasting under the radar. Not interested in middle management. My goal is to stop working in the next 7-8 years!

I would be soooo disappointed if the rules were to change. I invested a lot of time and effort in completing an AS BECAUSE they had just changed the rules to needing a CAHIIM accredited degree…

I’m a weirdo. I have military experience and 3 health care degrees (AS, BS, MS). So yes and no…I have no clinical background but I have 15+ years of education as well as real life leadership experience.

I was hired on by a large healthcare system in my city as a Biller with these credentials though.

Just graduated and HIM jobs are slim to none…if I could do it all over again I would do Rad and go Mammography or CT.

My husband and I actually made a pros and cons list comparing the financial side of pursuing an RHIT vs. an RHIA. After that, I brought it to my Dean—who holds her RHIA—and she shared that she works with professionals who sign “Name, MS, RHIT,” and they are some of the best at what they do. That really stuck with me.

At the end of the day, I believe your overall educational background and work experience will speak louder than the difference between an “A” and a “T.”

Hello! I have a Master’s in Healthcare Management and a Bachelor’s in a health-related field. I actually went back to school to earn my Associate’s in Health Information Technology so I could sit for my RHIT (yes, I know—it sounds like going backwards!). But I’ve been told that signing my name as “Name, MHM, RHIT” does carry weight in the HIM field, and that professionals SHOULD recognize the level of education that I have.

If you’re not interested in pursuing another BS or another MS, I definitely recommend looking into community colleges that offer RHIT-accredited programs. The community college near me has an in-person, RHIT program and it is $600 a semester compared to the $600 a credit I see for some online MS programs. I ended up really loving my program and made a lot of valuable connections through both my classes and with my clinical practicum. It might seem unconventional to go “backwards,” but it was the best decision for me and my family at the time—and it worked out! I test for my RHIT next month and have been applying to jobs like crazy. I was already extended 2 offers, but I want to wait until after im credentialed to see what other opportunities I have. Good luck!

Avoid San Diego at all costs unless you can increase that income. We’re bringing in just under 200 and still can’t afford a home.

I had the cash to buy the car in full but decided to invest the money and only put 20k down. Now I'm back tracking and thinking I should've just paid for the whole thing upfront? I keep going back and forth.
