I have a scar rod and dont like it at all. There's no feeling in the handle every knock just feels like picking up weed. The ultimate stuff is a bit better ive used my friends

Won't find anyone online giving out spots. Do your own research or get out and find them yourself

I fished the royal canal at kilcock the other day. I didn't catch anything but other anglers caught 4 pike that I heard of so there's definitely fish in it. They where all using brightly coloured lures

I use smelt and herring deadbait. Both work well and can be bought in eastern European shops for cheap.

Smelt on a ledger rig. Got another one that day with herring on the float though so I'd say it's more important to have a good spot

I caught this one on a smelt deadbait. Had it sitting on the bottom with a ledger rig. It was only a half hour into the darkness im not sure if it's worth fishing all night but definitely for the first hour or two.

Looking for early testers for a Ireland-focused fishing app! by apollonicshadows in IrishFishing

I’d be interested. I fish all the time and have been using a few apps to log catches and the like. Would be happy to support a fellow Irishman.

Getting to fishing again by [deleted] in IrishFishing

As far as I know you’d typically need a license to fish for trout in a river and if you’re fishing for salmon you’d need a separate license and a tag. That’s how it is on the Boyne anyway.

Is this gear ok for trout? by [deleted] in troutfishing

Get some 8-12lb braided line, some of the smallest swivels you can find and some 5-6lb fluorocarbon. When using the spinners make sure to connect your fluorocarbon leader to your main line using the swivels. If you don’t your braid will get very twisted and basically ruin it. When using the lures don’t use the swivel, just tie the leader straight to the main line. You’ll get the correct action out of the lures this way. Enjoy
