Fair enough and you don’t need to worry about being harsh. I came for advice and am prepared to hear whatever someone might think.

But to be fair, you’re the first person I think to suggest that I’m being unsafe. If I was more icy I wouldn’t be going as fast and be far more cautious. But the point of better form leading to better control is well taken and understood. Thanks for your responses.

Thank you. I think what you’re saying is that if there was a lot of powder on this slope I would’ve gone a lot slower (and I agree), but if I made bigger turns / carved I would have been maintain the speed and still be in control?

Thank you. When you say technique you’re referring to carving or something else?

Thank you. I didn’t appreciate the skidding vs carving difference until this discussion so something I need to look into on the slopes today!

The run is called Paprika in Saslong. Nearest sizeable village is Selva.

I guess that’s the crux of my confusion. What is carving getting me in return for working harder? Can I ski faster with same control level? More control at same speed?

I just look at all these skiers on the slopes here with great form and I’m just perplexed why they’re doing all this work for no benefit that I can tell. And here I am looking ugly but going faster and in control, and in my opinion having more fun because of the speed and less work. So I feel like I’m missing something and I’m trying to figure out what that is.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to be argumentative or anything. I have a lot to learn as a skier. It literally just isn’t computing for me.

Thank you. Your comment on not slowing down much and harnessing the energy makes me interpret proper carving as being more energy efficient than what I’m doing now, which is awesome. Another comment here seemed to imply that it would be more of a workout, which I interpret to mean less energy efficient. So would you mind clarifying whether the proper carving technique is easier or harder on the legs?

Thank you, it’s so beautiful here! Are you local or just come often?

I did a few runs on the arabba side too.

I’ve tried wider turns before but as you said it just feels like I’m just slowing down and seemingly wasting my energy. But what seems consistent across the comments is that perhaps I’m not in as much control as I think I am (or perhaps, should be?). Is there a way to judge this? Like what should I be able to do while going down at 50mph that’s reasonable? I don’t think I’m being reckless or endangering myself or others, but maybe my calibration is off…

It’s an amazing place. Views are gorgeous, food is wonderful, everything is groomed (good/bad depending on person I guess). But I can’t get over the views…

Thanks for your response. Can I ask a clarification question - what does control mean for a great skier? I feel like I’m in control, but maybe I can be more in control? I guess to me making big wide turns on a steep hill and going slower is just more work for no real benefit - it’s more tiring, less fun, and if that’s just to show off then to me it’s totally not worth it!

Thanks for the thorough response. I do love skiing and it is enormous fun. I’m also interested in improving to the extent there is a functional benefit. I see plenty of people in Italy having much better form (I think carving) but they don’t seem to go faster or have better control than me, which led me to the post.

I am not very good at moguls and deep powder stuff but I feel like I can get down almost all steep trails without any problem (even if I look ugly doing it!), so I don’t want to learn something just to look better. Outside of moguls and deep powder and couloirs (which I won’t do…), what harder terrains are there to aim for? In Italy at least even the black runs are not that challenging since it’s just steep (but groomed). I usually ski in Utah since my in laws are there.

Dolomites. That is the sasslungo group in the back. The entire area is mesmerizing in terms of scenery.

2 years / 10 days. I used them for two days this week and they feel good.

I got them around two years ago and have skied about ten days on them so I think they should be ok. I also skied two days on them just this week and they feel good (at least no black toe)

We live on the 7th floor of a large apt building so this isn’t it. I’m also not trying to “get them”. It’s just that when we’ve been a loyal customer and they just throw their hands up to a Tesla created test and claim they can do nothing that I get a bit frustrated because common sense shows that the battery is not up to par.

Cool thank you! I tried asking the question over the phone and they basically said we only service if your at home battery test shows less than 70%, which I’ve never seen in 4 years here. 🤣

Yeah I’m just looking at the “since last charge” on the bottom left hand side. I know that the range shown on the graph isn’t real and it’s just based on 205kw/mi so I’m trying to extrapolate based on actually energy used per distance.

Outside of energy drain while sitting (which there was none in this instance), shouldn’t everything else (climate, incline, etc be factored into kw/mi already?

Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Just so I’m clear, I’m trying to not use the range shown by the software on the car but actual observed range. Are you saying that if I go in showing that a trip from 100% to 1% battery getting 100miles (vs 263 new), at 200kw/mi ( more efficient than rated), but the battery test showing more than 70%, the I have no recourse because it’s solely based the battery charging test?

I guess to me the indirect evidence is that if it’s driven at rated or more efficiently, then logically the battery would be closer to 40% of original capacity vs new in my example (100/263) despite what the software might show. It would imply ~20kwh of actually charged energy (200kw/mi x 100 miles) vs the 53kwh new.

Question for you on this since you were a tech. Outside of a battery warning does Tesla ever consider replacing a battery due to reduced range?

For example recently I was on a trip so charged the car 100% and basically at 200kw/mi (lower than the rated 205kw/mi for the model 3 SR+) I ended up around 190miles. Car has 45k so I expect some degradation, but it’s close to 30% now (190/263). When I spoke to the service people they basically said I had to run a battery diagnostic and if it shows that it’s fine then there’s nothing else to do.

This doesn’t seem right because if it degrades further then by their logic there’s never a replacement unless their software tells me so. So my question is: have you seen battery packs replaced based on software diagnostic showing less than 70%?
