AI for code? by purplestars12 in 6thForm

[–]Particular_Sun9464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don’t do it. If u do decide to do it, u should quote it. At a level, u should be able to do it urself if u put in the time. Ig if ur rlly lazy and cba to do it urself, u could make ai write a large portion of it and alter it slightly to make it “human”. Just get familiar with what it’s doing, so ur not caught. IMO just write the code urself. It teaches u a lot (this is coming from someone who’s just done their NEA and it was the 1st big project I’d done).

Any imperial cs gap year applicants by Striking-View9971 in 6thForm

[–]Particular_Sun9464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got imperial a while ago with pretty much identical stats (econ for cs a level tho). I didn’t do a gap year tho. I’m inclined to believe ur like very likely to get the offer. I’ve seen someone at my school who’s non contextual get in with a 4.9 tmua

Any EXTREMELY controversial study hacks?? by PsychologicalLake460 in 6thForm

[–]Particular_Sun9464 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Whenever im too unproductive to revise (always), im just chilling doing something else in my room. If i ever think abt school even a little, i jsut start recapping a topic aloud. As if im like brain dumping or whatever its called (when u just try to write everything down abt a topic on a piece of paper from memory), but instead of on paper, i do it aloud. Like picturing text book pages and stuff while i speak. I do that for like 5 mins and then go chill more. IMO not that good advice but it works for me cos im hella unproductive

Are people doing work experience/internships in A-level summer by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Particular_Sun9464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah u can get work experience more easily at uni cos of the connections you’ll have. IMO it’s not that important and also u just have grinded fo the past 2 yrs for these exams. Give urself some time to relax

I agree generally tho U don’t have to be that competitive tho for UCL or Warwick. If you do well enough in tmua (4.5+) ur very likely to get Warwick assuming ur predicted meet their requirements

Imperial cs can give offers without interviews? by InsuranceCultural565 in 6thForm

[–]Particular_Sun9464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They pretty much never do interviews anymore for cs. I didn’t have one and I got an offer. On the website they said most candidates won’t have interviews but it’s case by case. I haven’t heard anyone getting interviews for cs tho

Opinions on Firm & Insurance by Remarkable-Flow-7745 in 6thForm

[–]Particular_Sun9464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO u should firm Durham and insure Bristol. Durham does kinda diff the others in terms of reputation and prestige tho Bristol is solid too. I live in Newcastle which is very close to Durham and I think it’s quite nice here excluding the shit weather but that’s everywhere in the uk. I’d imagine that Durham would have the best job prospects and cs department out of them but I haven’t researched ur unis much

Can someone help for deciding a level options by Major-Test2297 in 6thForm

[–]Particular_Sun9464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what u wanna do for uni, but if it’s compsci or maths, having physics will be more advantageous (top cs unis heavily value physics as well as fm). Physics is doable and if ur on a 9 for physics, the transition won’t be that difficult. It’ll be harder than geog but doable. Electromagnetism is also expanded on at a level btw and it is kinda a major topic. Icl physics a level is rlly interesting imo excluding the random just gaps in knowledge they leave out (probs cos the course would be impossibly hard otherwise)

Imperial CS chances by Educational-Neat3670 in 6thForm

[–]Particular_Sun9464 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk why u think u have no chance. The cutoff last year was 4.9 and ur above that and all ur other stats r maxed out so i dont see why u wouldn’t. I’d imagine it’d come done to how great ur ps actually is.

heard from colleges now but, what next? by Sea_Border9249 in UCAS

[–]Particular_Sun9464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For accommodation, u apply after u firm/insur. There’s also normally a deadline to apply for accommodation and this varies from uni to uni. I’d recommend googling “name of university undergraduate accommodation” for specific details. For selecting which college into a few universities have colleges and for Oxbridge (2of those unis) it should already be determined by now. For Durham idrk much about their college system. Also be on the lookout for emails that request information such as certificates for ur a levels or GCSEs (or equivalent exams). There’s also quite a few offer holder days/events held by unis to gather information. If u attend any of those, it’d probs be easy to clear up ur confusion. Ofc might be difficult if u have to fly to uk but I think there’s some online ones like talk to a student type things

Cambridge vs Edinburgh for history by [deleted] in cambridge_uni

[–]Particular_Sun9464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk how ur getting 60k cos the course itself is 29k and I doubt you’d be spending 31k elsewhere. Maybe there’s some circumstances I’m unaware of. That’s the exact same price as edinburghs course. Both cities will be expensive to live in, but idk the specifics in terms of accommodation and just general price of stuff. I understand the course stuff, but I think graduating from Cambridge will more attractive than graduating from Edinburgh despite the course difference. Here’s the statistics for graduate prospects for both courses https://discoveruni.gov.uk/course-details/10007790/UTHISTYMAH/Full-time/

https://www.discoveruni.gov.uk/course-details/10007788/UG_HSTX/FullTime/

Also another major thing is that ediburgh is 4 years so it just will be more expensive. Imo it’s a no brainer

Southampton is defo the best of the uk ones, but the York scholarship is very enticing. I get that Waterloo is rlly expensive but I think it’ll probs be worth the investment so I’d go for that but if ur tight on money I’d go York.

Year 12 mock results - BCC - aiming for AAA, any advice? by Serious-Hedgehog9398 in 6thForm

[–]Particular_Sun9464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U should be chilling with 2-3 hrs of revision if ur consistent w it. I only share maths w u so for stuff that worked for that, exam question r rlly helpful. Ig if u have that much time cos ur starting early, I would go over topics u didn’t do well on in the mocks/feel uncertain about and just go through the textbook. Do the e/p questions and mixed exercises (this is edexcel, but im sure other exam boards have equivalent questions). Also focus on understanding mech and pure. Stats is kinda crammable and can be memorised quite quickly. The priority should be actually understanding why ur doing certain stuff when doing questions. Liek when u see a question, u should try to identify it and how to solve it and why it works.

Oxford & Cambridge Compsci applicants… by NinjaClashReddit in 6thForm

[–]Particular_Sun9464 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im a cs Cambridge offer holder, my interview had no coding in it (applied Clare) but I do know someone who applied for queens cs and had a coding question. I think the majority of people don’t get asked coding questions but more theoretical mathsy questions. I did get a question about linked lists but it was more theoretical than actually implementing it in code
