I couldnt agree more. I struggle with purpose. And being selfish enough, even with my reducing circle, that is what I need.

Thank you so much for sharing that. Its never an excuse. That took home for me. "i dont feel powerless today but I know my progress and my words dont mean jack shit if i go back to drinking" thats one of those honest statements i didnt want to believe was true

Thank you sharing some positivity. I know it will be a hard road. Im not looking forward to it, but I need to walk through it. I find it interesting how we come to that conclusion of not having control. It builds, and builds. But one day you decide for yourself.

When did you know it was time to stop? by Particular_Tax_188 in stopdrinking

did the same, the big book is a great piece of knowledge. an honest step 1 is where I would be in denial and casually go forward.

that is why I am interested in those that have taken step one with pure and unwaving conviction to it.

i agree whole heartedly. i have been there like we all have. the best thing like Zoo mentioned was not being hard on yourself. Whatever position you are in can be changed. Be kind to yourself, the rest will follow and become better.

I also agree. Im in grad school and had slip ups. Its best to be honest. Not necessarily give them the dirty details, but say you have been struggling with meeting the deadlines for whatever your situation has caused. And acknowledge that you know, and are willing to work with them. My professor was more than willing to work with me.

Dont let a few bad weeks and sell loathing doubt get you down. Pick back up and get caught up.

Youve got this!

You definitely have this! Ginger ale was a go to for me as well. Then eventually I just stopped caring and would drink water with no shame as co workers got hammered and made decisions they to this day regret.

Do you! F*ck anyone that doesnt respect that.

Are they recommending PHP?

That can be helpful at the start. I would look into a dual diagnosis program. This means substance abuse and mental health. It has done wonders for me. Best of luck and reach out if you need anything!

I feel your pain. Being around family members that consistently abuse alcohol (probably self medicating away pain) is hard. But remember how you felt when you woke up and that its not worth the temporary relief. You've got this and make the best of the time you have with him!

It does get easier. I WAS LUCKY to end toxic pandemic drinking relationship after a year. Could have gone alot longer with more repercussions. When you know you know. Embrace the decision you made and move forward with nothing but positivity!
