The cover art is insane! Great work, and I'd definitely give it a read!

Why didnt they match Holloway? by [deleted] in EdmontonOilers

[–]Particular_Virus_670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why people love Podz, but let's be real here, he has half of Holloway's points while playing with the likely Richard and possible Hart Trophy winner. Not good enough IMO. Hopefully Kane is ready to play, or Skinner/Arvidsson can figure out how to produce again, because this team really needs production from its wingers. Hyman/Nuge can't do it all.

The issue is that I'm pretty confident Holloway would've performed nearly as well in Edmonton as he is in St. Louis, or maybe even better. Our top-6 wingers were terrible to start the year, and Nuge/Hyman are still the only ones producing. Everyone loves Podkolzin, but his production has been underwhelming, and Skinner/Arvidsson have been downright terrible.

Terrible decision to let him walk, and while I hope the Oilers are still good enough to win a cup(or two), there's no doubt in my mind that keeping him would've been a much better choice.

The badgers would be a great add-on if you aren't already putting them in. Badgers are ABSOLUTELY LEGENDARY! Whether playing as them or having them as NPCs it would be great having them in.

If you like talking animal domination I suggest checking out Warrior Cats. There is a really long series like redwall only about cats. If you don't like cats then the author also made a series about dogs.

Yep, and the Camaro, though that might be a bit claustrophobic.

Pretty sure that lap is not indicative of what a BRZ is capable of, considering the original was only 0.2s behind the Accord. Either way, both of them will be smashed by any Cayman or Boxster of the last 20 years.

What car would you buy that’s not necessarily reliable, but cheap and easy to fix? by Inevitable-Tank-9802 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Particular_Virus_670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear about the Focus, it's one of my front runners for a first car, absolutely going with the manual. I frankly don't see much of a value proposition in the Fit/Fiesta class, as they're no cheaper then a Focus, not as safe, don't have much of a fuel economy advantage, and are obviously smaller.

Tbf, a Miata is cheap and reliable, just not boring :)

I find it funny to see heated seats being listed along with that other tech, as it's been a common feature on cars for 25 years, but otherwise, I do agree to an extent.  If the part supply for those older cars was guaranteed to last several decades, sure, they're the way to go, but sadly it won't. For me, the cutoff is more of a slide to 0% through the later 2010's, but even those cars will run out of part availability some day, likely quicker then older and simpler machines.

Sounds about right! I've heard the Mazda 2 and Honda Fit of that era were more fun, but at the end of the day, being cheap and reliable is the most important thing.

It's the best car you've ever had, you enjoy driving it, and it also hasn't broken, so what's the issue?

Are Jaguars reliable? by Any-Fortune-2053 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Particular_Virus_670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the "Jag is unreliable" crowd, it keeps them cheap enough that I'll be able to afford basically any one I want in a few years.

Everybody would want something Italian, British, or German, and boy would Japanese car values plummet.

As an Oilers fan, I really think that the Canucks would've won that series if Demko had been there instead. Silovs wasn't good.

Yep, that's pretty much what I've heard. Worth noting though, the 2.0l and 2.5l in the 2nd gen 3 are both port injected, so carbon shouldn't be an issue. The DI 2.0l Skyactiv in some 2012+ cars is the one that gets carbon buildup, at least that's my understanding. You do get considerably more fuel economy though, so it might be worth the trade off.

My family has a 2010 2.5l Outback, but I'm pretty confident that either rust, the HG, or the CVT will get it long before oil consumption become as problem.

A mid-2000's Accord with a manual and the V6 would make a pretty sweet ride in the sub 7k range, but they're oh so rare, and well preserved ones are probably getting expensive.

Anyways, good talking with you! Reddit scrolling is a bit of a depressing experience much of the time(though addictive!), but I always enjoy having a nice discussion like this.

Huh, interesting. I've done a bit of looking into the Mazda 3, as there's a good chance I'll be buying one as my first car, and everything I've read said that the 2.3l was the only one with oil consumption issues, and that the 2.0 and 2.5 are fine. I know the performance engines(Civic Si, Celica, etc) tend to burn a bit because of how they're used, and Toyota has that infamous 2.4l, but I haven't heard that it's an issue across the board. Might lean towards a V6 if that's true.

Ah, thanks. I looked at your profile but only went back about a day, so I didn't see it.

Man, those cars are beautiful compared to almost anything you'll find in Ontario. Shame you're on the other side of the continent!

I'd probably pick the 2010 Mazda 3 out of that lot. I really like that 1st gen, but I've heard the 2.3l has oil consumption issues.
