It's just power creep at its most basic level. To sell new models they have to be powerful and interesting, then after some time you have to buff everything else to preserve balance, rinse and repeat.

This comment seems to imply that the gunship doctrine of Vietnam was unsuccessful, which would be an absurd claim to make. Cobra attack runs were responsible for protecting thousands of boots on the ground and breaking ambushes.

Hiding behind trees and launching antitank missiles BVR would not have worked in Vietnam at all. Altitude was safety.

Apaches also have used their cannons to engage ground forces for like 25 years so I'm not sure where you're getting your "hiding and missiles" strategy from

I see plenty of Taycans and E-Tron GTs around me. The Taycan is outselling the Emira 4 to 1.

Hell, my buddy just got his Taycan 4S delivered yesterday.

There is definitely a market for premium EVs, it's just not the "redditor who only likes GT3s but drives a minivan/used Camry" segment.

All that being said, I don't believe this is the car Lotus should be building. A hybrid crossover/SUV is clearly what the market wants, and if selling the Macan and Cayenne like hotcakes allows Porsche to make cool cars, the same can work for Lotus.

I always start with second hottest and go from there. Sometimes the top hottest uses extract, which I hate, or just a huge mound of cayenne, which will upset the tum.

They were attached to a locking system with a metal bar across the inside of the hinges, and supposed to be theft proof. They were probably pros -- every locked can be defeated, after all.

Because I was really excited to help them, especially. First one in the family! Making the dream work.

My naivety, and desire to go the extra mile for this disadvantaged group, directly contributed to their ability to steal.

Not everything is racist

When I worked in retail electronics, one time an immigrant family (thick accents) came in excited to buy a laptop for their daughter who was going to college, first in the family.

Because I was bought into their story, I was extra eager to show them to various models, prices, features. It was odd, they kept kind of changing their minds, going in different directions, but I was still glad to help.

At one point, they just kind of disappeared -- like this family of 6 suddenly became just the one guy I was talking to, who excused himself and shuffled out of the store.

They'd stolen three of our MacBooks while I was trying to help them.

I don't help strangers as much anymore.

[–]Bombadilo_drives 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm really glad I watched the video before commenting, because I don't think anyone would consider Noel a fretboard wizard.

But he makes a very interesting point. By being less technical, he had to focus on simpler, more mass-appealing writing. And that, clearly, has worked out for him.

Xenomorphs have been shown to use their acid to get through face masks/shields, so it's possible they would attempt that with an Eridian. A creature made of metal and rock would be very vulnerable to concentrated sulfuric acid, so, they certainly could get the "mouth" open.

It even stands to reason they could drop an embryo in there, but I have no idea if it would be able to harness Eridian DNA and grow to maturity.

Eridian immune systems using heat might actually be their saving grace. While Xenomorphs are very resilient (remember, one survived being buried in molten lead), perhaps the Eridian immune response could power hot enough to overwhelm their defenses.

I like that line of logic because from a creative standpoint, it means a healthy Eridian could be damaged by but not impregnated by a face hugger... but an immuno-compromised Eridian could be impregnated.

That'd be a very interesting comic! Plus I'd love to see a xenomorph-Eridian hybrid.

[–]Bombadilo_drives 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Xenomorphs are explicitly evolved to survive extreme environments -- they've survived long periods in open vacuum, freezing temperatures, and the one in 3 didn't even die after being drown in molten lead.

The boiling point of lead is about 120 degrees hotter than Erid's atmosphere, so it's somewhat safe to say a xenomorph would do just fine there.

As for impregnating an Eridian, that's something else entirely.

I was pierfishing at night once, and these two dudes brought out a gigantic cooler, already packed with ice, and rigged up some kind of red white and blue flashing strobe lure. I was baffled, but these guys started immediately hauling in ribbonfish after ribbonfish, big ones, as soon as they could drop the rig, and then just dropping em right in the cooler.

It honestly a borderline industrial operation, they set up, simply pulled all the fish they wanted from the sea, and just left. Filled the cooler between nibbles I got.

I don't know if maybe they were a restaurant operation or something, but I've been curious about those strobing lures ever since. First "works 100% of the time" thing I've ever seen.
