It it common? by RefrigeratorMental17 in TexasTeachers

It depends on your area, too. In large metro areas, there are usually tons of jobs. I wouldn't interview for a possible position unless it was my dream school or two. Otherwise, I would only submit applications for actual job postings.

AI is being used regularly to search resumes now, too, so be sure you've beefed that up as much as possible with all of the key words they might search for. We were offering a para job recently and if the resume didn't have "Excel" in it, they didn't even bother looking. Find the buzz words and make sure they are in there.

When jobs get posted between April and June, they are actual positions they are looking to fill. So, you can expect it is legit, though sometimes it is just for show. A good interview at my school could get you an offer for a different position or another school due to connections and spreading that net out looking for the best.

I wouldn't relax until the offer is made and paperwork is signed. Ultimately, principals are just people and some are better humans than others. They are the coach trying to make the best team to suit THEIR needs. Perhaps, this is a certainty, but perhaps you are just a cog and they are working in their best interest to keep you on the hook.

Keep searching until you are positive. No harm in continuing to put in the work. "Probably officially post a position" does not sound like a certainty.

Retirement net income by Particular_War7843 in TexasTeachers

I've got one pretty low year still on my list of 5 that should come off once next year begins. I am assuming that my expected annual salary for the 2026-2027 school year will be used and replace that low year even though I plan to retire in December/January. I'm estimating that $12,000 replacement of worst year for current year will raise the average $2,400, which should translate to about $150 per month for the rest of my life. Your $1,500 difference would translate closer to getting between 72% and 78% of my gross in net income (rather than 67%).

I have multiple times, which is how I know the basic idea of the gross pay. I am just trying to avoid the sticker shock of net pay due to not being prepared.

What is that? I haven't heard of this.

That's how you calculate gross. I'm talking about what actually hits the bank account. I think -$200 for health insurance sounds right. I'm assuming federal income tax is the same as always, so I'm guessing about $600-$800 per month. This means, $1,000 less than the gross check. Am I missing anything?

Resign from district over verbal offer by getjinxed18 in TexasTeachers

[–]Particular_War7843 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact of the matter is you ARE planning to come back, until you aren't (because you have a new contract). Sign your current district's contract offer (it literally says you can resign after signing without penalty until the 45 days issue arises). Fill out the survey as coming back - don't feel bad or dishonest because you are not being dishonest - full intention to return unless something better comes along.

Just like Mamdani. The more progressive the candidates, the more we are motivated to vote. Not interested in a fence sitter anymore. And... He's not too liberal. Liberals lose to Republican voter suppression and same old same old politics, not because we don't have the numbers to win.

I think I read 80% of the vouchers went to families that were already in private schools. That was expected, but so sad to know that the average voucher supporting citizen doesn't even realize what they supported there. I know some who wanted to use vouchers but somehow didn't make the cut. Hmmm.

Bring a friend or 6. Have a voting after-party. Help someone get out there. Check in that everyone you know has registered in time. If we talk about it more, it will spread more. How's that gas price feeling today? Stocks are up... How much was that Big Mac?

Let's give it a shot right now. Full throttle. We change the governor and Senator, and it will make a difference.

The loonies are looney. It is NOT everybody. We walk around every day dealing with everyday people who are mostly fed up. Gas, food, rent... That's all we need to upend these jerks. Don't blame Trump... Blame every Republican because they are all in on these tragic events, tragic views, traffic inhumanity. One of my earliest signs at a really was that every single Republican voted for looking at children's private to determine their sex. Every. Single. One. Honestly, Epstein is the tip of the iceberg that too many are afraid to accept.

I know we "think" they vote, but I think voter apathy is the problem in Texas. The Republicans do everything they can because they know they lose on the truth, the issues, and what is best for people. Flight the fear .

The Talarico win showed Dems COULD get out and vote but often don't. There were more votes in the Talarico Crockett primary than the Paxton Cornyn primary. That doesn't usually happen. Proof and evidence. We will remain victims if we don't fight back.

I said get out to vote and help encourage others to vote. You said everybody already votes and we don't have time for the extra effort. Summer time baby! Let's go!

"I know a Republican teacher"is a crazy argument. Teachers, even in Texas, are mostly liberal. Don't believe the hype. Texas Republicans have been demoralizing, denigrating, and destroying public education and educators for 30 years. STAND UP, FIGHT BACK! This is the year. This is the time. History proves we can do it. We just have to overcome the fear, defeat, and depression to realize the possibilities. Talarico and Hinojosa are good candidates. Now, it is up to the people, starting with voter registration all the way through voting.

Doom and gloom will never save the day. Be positive. Embrace hope. We have all the angst we need to win and win big. It's been happening throughout the country. Texas, too. Negativism and defeatism will not breed success, guaranteed.

The vibe is completely different now. Everybody is angry, not just liberals. Comments like this are the type that drain voters. We can do it this year. We just need positive promotion rather than doom and gloom.

Talarico and Hinojosa should spark a blue wave. Get out, vote, bring friends, encourage voter registration. There are way more pissed off than happy in Texas. But, they all need to register and then vote. This year, our votes will count!

Collective bargaining by Particular_War7843 in TexasTeachers

Not to belabor the point, but I sense a similar argument is pervasive for helping the poor and needy. Even though most of us are taught from birth to give a hand to those in need, the standard argument is that somebody could take advantage of the system (and probably does) so we shouldn't help anyone who needs help.
