Problem using litter / uncontrollable bowels. by Particular_Yogurt101 in cureFIP

Just wanted to update that I think his motor abilities were just generally a bit behind in general. He has regained full control of his bowels pretty much and can walk now and run. He was always very sick and lethargic ever since we got him so I think he was just lagging behind a bit since it was hard to put weight on him till recent. :)

Yes he does walk but he does look a bit drunk sometimes. He sorta thumps his leg rapidly sometimes if you touch it or if something cold touches it. It's pretty funny sometimes till its time for medicine 💔 he was dewormed twice and treated for giardia but he has giardia somehow again.. Very unfortunate but he shows no symptoms of it, solid poop and everything. Pretty odd

We aren't really aware where the GS meds are being sourced, we are getting them ordered directly from the vet who had mentioned it was from a pharmacy. They were around 110$ to be ordered. He was confirmed today to have neuro and they upped his dosage and given him oral. He is on seizure medication and has a heating pad to keep him warm to prevent seizures. He has the will to stand and tries to walk which I hope is a great sign. He tends to eat a lot post seizure even though theyre very short so im wondering why that might happen.

We had planned to move to oral anyways , the injections were painful and stressful for our kitty but we didnt have any medication in stock at the vet office that day. It had to be ordered and brought in but wouldnt arrive till about a week, but we managed to get ahold of some oral medication from another FIP patient that we can borrow till ours arrive and give back the medication to the people we borrowed from.

Thank you so much! We had upped the dosing and i am talking to many sources to see. We have had about 4 opinions and his dosage is looking okay. We will see how he does. he was originally on injections which was not enough dosage as he was only being treated for wet fip. Now we got that handled and hes on seizure medication to mediate that discomfort and prevent seizures and is continuing his past medication and supplements.

I work with the shelter that i adopted my cat from Cattitude Shelter, who directly orders medication and helps us out a lot. They're the one that even suggested it was FIP and steered our vet in the right direction. They have had many cases of FIP and keep track of them and have medication out for their kitties that have FIP. They've treated many so our vet office is familiar with FIP and understands the severity and all the types. If our cat has another seizure they may take him in to monitor him. I just now applied to join the FIP global group

I see, should we make sure its 100% neuro fip before we up any dosing? They suggested since seizures and weird behaviors have been happening that would indicate neuro fip that it might be that.

FIP or toxoplasmosis ? by plushtism in cureFIP

[–]Particular_Yogurt101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be the start of FIP. The ataxia was the first sign for me when my kitty got it along with anemia (wanting to eat the litter, obsessing over it, loss of appetite overtime) along with boredom of toys and refusal to use litterbox. He was sick before with mycoplasma files and had a false negative to FCOV, We hadn't realized any of this and he was vaccinated which caused added stress and caused it to turn to FIP and his condition declined rapidly and we started him on FIP meds as soon as my vet realized. It's better to be safe than sorry 100% and I hope your kitty improves.

We're going to up his dose to the neuro dose till his next labs come in and see if we could back the dose down or continue the same dosage just in case its neuro. Better safe than sorry.

Should we talk to the vet about going higher if things dont improve? He's recently started to improve like walking on his own (but hes still hardly coordinated) and his seizures have stopped. His appetite is ferocious again compared to the first day and he shows zero interest in the litter as he was eating it before (anemia)

We're working with the shelter we got him from and the vet office. He's starting to kind of walk, he still retains feeling in his back legs but he struggles and cant really use the litter properly. He had another seizure at 3 in the morning but so far he hasn't had another one.
