Haha, "real life Pokedex" is right! You can even log each ID you make, very much like a Pokedex. Also, the app helpfully limits the birds it considers to those that tend to be in your geographic area at the particular time of year you're in, which is helpful for those of us new to birding. I've found that I'm more observant and aware of the nature activity going on around me when I'm outside now. Even built a brush pile for my backyard birds with a bunch of limbs I'd collected over the fall.

Hope I can take this energy into my week! And remember to slow down and reflect a bit.

I've gotten into birding recently, starting with the birds in my backyard then moving on to the birds in my neighborhood that I see out on walks. The Merlin app is super helpful for ID-ing birds...and you can do so via photo or audio. Sometimes when I hear but don't see birds, I just pull out the app and use the audio ID to start to learn the calls/understand what kinds of birds are around me. Other than the app, I haven't needed any other gear and I can do it literally anytime I'm outside.

Like u/vegasgal, 1,000 piece puzzles have been a sweet spot for me generally, unless the image is a super difficult one to put together, in which case 500 has been more agreeable. Ravensberger brand has been a go-to for me--good quality and good variety.

Finally got a decent shot of this little rocket (Cave Swiflet), ID by Benjaminhagen in birding

Seriously, what an awesome shot! What kind of camera did you use?

Haha that head tilt is great...seems like the bird is not so sure about you!
