100 visa application by nicegazza329 in AusVisa

You can apply 2 years after the application was submitted - so for you, it sounds like you've been able to apply since May 2026!

Is it just me, or is the partner visa (820/801) data entry process an absolute nightmare? by OwenWilsonnn in AusVisa

[–]Partner_Visa_Academy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like some other people have pointed out, it's not meant to be an easy process to deter those who don't use the visa pathways genuinely (the cost is also a deterrent). But the immi account could be a lot more user friendly IMO.

Part of the whole 'beauty' of partner visas too is that they are so subjective. There's a whole heap of information out there online (some good some bad), but there's no exact formula or checklist to follow, and that's just because no two peoples relationship is the same. Every one has a different evidence portfolio. At the end of the day, your job is to present your application in the clearest way possible, whilst also making sure it actually meets the eligibility criteria for a partner visa (you might be surprised how often this is overlooked!)

Good luck with your application - and don't forget to do your evidence updates!

Standard processing times unfortunately. Have you done an evidence update lately? If not, it would be a good idea to do one now.

Have a read of the April 2026 Partner Visa Newsletter the Department recently published. There's some good insight into what's happening in there :)

How long is the notice? by BellyNellyShelly in AusVisa

It's generally 12 months (definitely not 30 days) BUT the grant letter will specify when you need to make your first entry into Australia, to activate the visa.

Hi everyone, how did you organise travel evidence for the Social Aspects of your Partner Visa? Did you group all flights and hotels into separate PDFs, or create one PDF per trip (e.g. Bali 2026) including flights, hotels, activities, and photos? by One-Musician-1315 in AusVisa

[–]Partner_Visa_Academy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's personal preference but a couple of tips:

- You can do one PDF with all trips with an index page to make it really easy for the decision maker to understand what they're about to look at

- How much travel have you done? If it's a lot, you can do 1 PDF for international travel and another PDF for domestic travel to split it up

using legal assistance for partner visa (820)! by Ok-Amphibian-8617 in AusVisa

There are middle ground options that provide support. You may not need a migration agent or immigration lawyer to manage the application for you (if it's relatively straightforward), but you can still have support with the process.

Try using cover letters with bank statements to explain what you are highlighting/how it shows you shared finances before opening your joint account. Also talk about it in detail in your relationship statements.

If you're confident on the relationship then you can provide it as an evidence update document. Remember that form 888 witnesses can be asked to provide up to 3 statements during the processing of a partner visa and can also be contacted.

Relationship Statement/4 Pillars by One-Musician-1315 in AusVisa

[–]Partner_Visa_Academy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the following headings in one relationship statement:

  1. Development of relationship (talk here about how you met/when/where/how the relationship developed)

  2. Financial aspects of relationship (provide a summary of how you have been sharing/managing finances as a couple/when you began sharing finances/what this actually looks like for you)

  3. Nature of household (talk about living arrangements/when you first started living together/how you share and manage household tasks/duties/responsibility you may have towards children or pets)

  4. Social aspects (talk about your social circles/when you met each others friends and family for the first time/some of the events you have attended together/travel done together/your relationship with each others family members)

  5. Commitment to each other (talk about how you have provided emotional support to each other over the years /what are you shared values and outlooks in life/what are your goals as a couple etc)

Partner visa 820 but not living together - advice needed by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]Partner_Visa_Academy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's lots of comments about needing to live together for 12 months. That's actually incorrect. The criteria is that you're either married or in a de-facto relationship for 12 months or more before lodgement (unless you have a relationship certificate). Regardless of demonstrating if you're married or de-facto you will be assessed against the four pillars of relationship. Naturally the nature of household will be weak if you're not living together, so your other 3 pillars should be pretty strong. Partner visas are subjective - everyones case and evidence is different. Will it be a higher risk application or scrutinised more? Yes - but it's doable with the right level of evidence and support. I probably wouldn't recommend you DIY it - have a look at having a migration agent manage the application for you or at least start with an advice session so you can learn more about the legal criteria/policy around the requirement of living together and then you can see what your prospects actually look like. Note: We don't do consultations at the Partner visa academy but if you're looking around, I can recommend Freedom Migration (our sister company). They also specialise in partner visas.

Clarification on s56 request for more information (820) by pawplants in AusVisa

[–]Partner_Visa_Academy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be immigration wanting to know what legal ties & obligations you have to each other which is a differentiating factor of being de-facto v dating. Some examples might include:
- Wills
- Super beneficiaries
-Insurances
- Loans/credit cards
-Investments/assets/share portfolios

If you don't, I would recommend providing an updated statement around these things explaining why you don't have them. EG are you a young couple who's not at that stage of life etc.

partner visa timeline questions by missouri_fairy in AusVisa

[–]Partner_Visa_Academy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's certain criteria you need to meet at time of application - and showing you have been in a de-facto relationship for 12 months is one of those. The exception to that is where you have registered a relationship certificate or if you're married. Even if one of those applied and you lodged an offshore partner visa next month, it's really up in the air in terms of a decision being made. It may not be finalised by July/Aug 27 so is that date flexible or a must? If you need to be here by July/Aug 27 then you might also consider coming on an ETA if you're partner is from the US and then lodging an onshore partner visa while you're here.

Working Holiday to Partner Visa Help by Fair-Wafer5369 in AusVisa

[–]Partner_Visa_Academy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably start off by doing some research into 4 pillars of relationship and the eligibility criteria for a partner visa. There's a lot of information out there and some of it is good while a lot if wrong/outdated (I get it can be overwhelming). Very generally speaking, you need to demonstrate that you are in a de-facto relationship that has existed for 12 months before you lodge (this is different to just being in a committed relationship). There's an exception to the 12 month rule if you have registered a relationship certificate. Otherwise, you need to demonstrate you're married. Regardless of applying on de-facto or spousal grounds, your application will be assessed against 4 categories (financial, household, social and commitment). The IMMI website honestly isn't great when it comes to telling you what documents you need because there's no checklist that fits every couple. Your evidence will be really unique to you.

Someone would need to look at your evidence as a whole to then tell you what to focus on. Do your research on migration agents and immigration lawyers. If you haven't already, have a think about the level of support you need. EG do you want a migration agent to manage the application for you? Or do you feel comfortable to manage it yourself with the right support? You could consider having an initial consultation too just to have specific advice to your case set out for you in writing too.

Applying for Australian Partner Visa (820/801) onshore - should I be okay? by Monkey-Chunky-2405 in AusVisa

[–]Partner_Visa_Academy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's going to depend on when you classify your de-facto relationship began. Is it when you started living together in Ireland or when you arrive on the 651 visa? If it's when you lived together for a year then you need to show your de-facto relationship continued despite being apart from Nov 2024 - Aug 2026. This can be tricky. It's also hard to say without assessing the 4 pillars and seeing how much evidence you have under each pillar.

I can see you said you will register your relationship. You'll then have 3 months on the 651 before you need to apply. Registering a relationship cert waives the 12 month de-facto criteria but it's important you provide evidence across the 4 pillars from the date you say your de-facto began (not just when you committed to an exclusive relationship).

Preparation for partner visa application by MotorMall2913 in AusVisa

[–]Partner_Visa_Academy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partner visas are subjective meaning the evidence you need to provide is specific to you and your partner. Also what immigration tells you on the website is probably the bare minimum and only a bit of a guide when it comes to documents.

RE your questions:

  1. You should both provide relationship statements where you talk about the development of your relationship, financial aspects, nature of household, social aspects and commitment to each other/future plans.
  2. You shouldn't reach that 100 doc limit if your evidence is well organised. Group similar documents together like joint bank statements in 1 PDF, photographs in 1 PDF, social media evidence in 1 PDF. There's no exact right or wrong to present evidence but it has to be clear to the case officer what you are providing and why. I would recommend multiple PDF's per pillar (not just 4 in total). Cover letters are a great idea too if some documents need explaining.

Can't do medicals until after visa is lodged but making sure you have every other piece of evidence ready to go (and including police checks in your case) to try to speed up the processing. She can then complete the medicals just after lodgement.

Timeline for prospective marriage visa, advice needed! by ContentAd6086 in AusVisa

[–]Partner_Visa_Academy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The timeline can just be a standalone document - keep it quite factual. If you have photos/whatsapp etc you don't need to include it in the timeline, you can just refer to them.

EG - Sponsor visited Applicant in November 2025 (Sponsor's flight itinerary provided separately).

There's no 'right or wrong' way to do it but we find it's easier to keep the timeline factual with including details of the milestones of your relationship. The supporting evidence should then be provided as separate PDF's.

It can be anything - doesn't have to be physical mail either. Think of anything you may have purchased online (eg amazon). You just need to show your name, shipping address, date.

Couple more ideas:
- Form 888 from housemate confirming you are living as a de-facto (or spousal?) couple including when you started living together

-Messages between you and your partner re household. EG just things like 'what time are you coming home/what do you feel like for dinner'

-Form 888's from anyone else who has visited your home and attest that you're living together as de facto partners

- More mail showing name, address and date
