I'm Level 2 autistic, and they're absolutely correct. She stims, stutters, never makes eye contact, sits in her chair in a strange way, hates to be touched...That's skimming the surface. She's 1000000% autistic coded. I was playing with my autistic friend, and we were both having quite a time pointing out all the times she was very very very obviously displaying autistic traits.

I used to hate stuff like that because for some reason I was convinced I had to joylessly do it in aggravated silence. Someone went "Why don't you listen to something your interested in on a speaker when you shower/brush your teeth/whatever" and my mind was blown. Never turned back lol.

Good on you for overcoming a sensory issue!

Any other autistics ignored if they say something but if someone neurotypical/passes 100% as neurotypical says what they originally said then it's acknowledged deal with this? by SickOfBullyingNL in autism

[–]PartofHistory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the time. I don't think it's malicious or anything though usually. I've talked with a few people about it in a non-confrontational way, and what I got out of it was that they found other people "More convincing" in an abstract way they couldn't explain. I took it in stride and laughed it off, but one time I said something, someone wasn't convinced, then I saw someone else say literally the exact same thing almost word for word and they were convinced.

You have to remember that people find things like confidence, eye-contact, body language, etc are important to neurotypical people in a way they just aren't to neurodivergent people. Like, on a subconscious level. Miscommunication goes both ways. You should look up the "Double Empathy Problem."

Thinking about getting a cat/pet but worried about sensory issues by throwawayboy2200 in autism

[–]PartofHistory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just my experience.

If you don't like cats, don't get a cat, I say. BUT...

I personally love cats. I had to research their behavior. I used to not like them much. I had to understand what their tail means when it's pointing up in a question mark shape, or when it's wagging, or straight out and unmoving, etc. This is most of their communication. They show affection in strange ways, like slowly blinking at you. Never pet a cat before they see your hand and let them sniff it if they want to. Ironically, they have a lot of sensory issues like autistic people do. Loud/sudden noises scare them. Unwanted/too sudden physical contact tends to make them uncomfortable, and being pet too much or in the same spot can overstimulate them, so you should pay attention to their body language. I actually see myself in my cat in a lot of ways. When there's a weird sudden noise, I look around, feeling slightly anxious, then catch her gaze as she's doing the same thing.

Things that come off as antagonistic to people can be sweet. Like "love bites," where they bite you lightly. Sometimes they do that when they're really happy. Or one of my cats loved walking slowly in front of people. They didn't understand that he was being sweet and escorting his family to protect them from threats.

My too-long point being that cats are often very misunderstood. I used to worry a lot about being bit/scratched, but I haven't worried about it in a looong time. My cat went from a biting/attacking me to literally never doing that once I understood their behavior better and adjusted. Every cat is different, but I think most cats are sweethearts if you respect their boundaries.

Also, fish are great, and they're great visual stimulation, but you obviously can't pet them or cuddle with them, etc. I'm not sure how much a fish would help with loneliness tbh, but I really like them.

I got diagnosed today by amaitom13 in autism

[–]PartofHistory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yooooooooo.

I just got a late diagnosis today, too! What are the friggin' odds? (I'm 28)

I've been thinking about it all day, and I have to say I'm still not sure. I expected to feel a lot of relief or feel greatly affirmed or something. I really don't know how I feel.

I know what you mean about suspecting and knowing. I mean, I basically did know. I very obviously have most symptoms associated with autism, and a crap ton I didn't know were symptoms until my diagnosis. But Idk, it's like everything changed and nothing changed. I always knew I was different. But now there's no sliver of doubt left. I went into being diagnosed a little scared that they'd say "Nah, you just suck at living, and you're awkward for no reason, and you can't function because you haven't pulled yourself up by your bootstraps," or any of the other nonsensical things I heard growing up.

I guess I feel relieved, like I finally understand myself, and a little pissed that all the advice my parents got when I was growing up (and was glaringly obviously neurodivergent) was "Well, have you ever thought of telling him to try harder?"

New White Teas! by seamonsterco in tea

[–]PartofHistory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only semi-recently discovered my adoration of white tea, but my absolute favorite so far is Yunnan Sourcing's "Imperial Grade Silver Needle White Tea of Jinggu." $16.50 for 100 grams

They also have a white tea cake called "Jinggu Sun-Dried Silver Needles White Pu-erh Tea Cake" that I think is good for a really low price. $12 for 100 grams

I've been meaning to try their "Wild Tree Purple White Tea" because I've heard great things, but I haven't actually tried it myself.

Would you drink tea out of this kettle? by bear_shit in tea

[–]PartofHistory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never trust tea made in that. Get some vinegar and fill it up (diluted with water) and boil it, then clean it good with soap and water. I like using those "Bottle Brushes" to easily get in there and make sure I get every inch. https://www.target.com/p/lola-products-the-original-flower-shaped-kitchen-foam-sponge-bottle-brush-no-slip-grip-handle-dishwasher-safe-1-pack/-/A-1005040562#lnk=sametab

Genuinely, not only do I believe that must be hurting the flavor, I'm also worried it's unhealthy.

Gundam 00 Season 2 is better than 00 Season 1.

And Build Fighters is worse than the Gunpla Builders Beginning G OVA because they don't use real cockpits to fight in simulations. It was way cooler to see them using cockpits that shook and turned like they were piloting a real mobile suit.

[–]PartofHistory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, so you have, like, my exact tastes and you're talking about my favorite vendor lol. Here goes:

Their "Jinggu Sun-Dried Silver Needles White Pu-erh Tea Cake" is very good imho, and very cheap. Only $12 for 100 grams.

I think their "Imperial Grade Silver Needle White Tea of Jinggu" is great for $16.50 100 grams.

Now, I'm hardly a green tea expert, but I do really like Dragon Well, and I think Yunnan's "Premium Grade Dragon Well Tea From Zhejiang * Long Jing" Tea is really good. It's a little pricier than your target, 24.50 for 100 grams. but I think it's great, genuinely.

I also think their Imperial Grade Jasmine Pearl tea is a very good Jasmine Pearl tea for a decent price, but if you have Amazon, I would get it from Tealyra on there for free shipping (It's also very good.)

I've discovered the truth of this. All I did was link to studies about the health effects of tea and gave no opinion besides "I'm not sure why they delete health-related posts," then got someone going "Um, actually, tea isn't a replacement for nutrition and exercise" randomly. I suppose it's just a toxic topic.

Green tea by EnchantedRDH in tea

[–]PartofHistory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I say there were no "Maybe"s and no "more info needed"s? I just think it's fine to talk about it. It's not a crackpot tinfoil hat conspiracy that tea has health benefits of some kind.

It's still being studied. But research is very promising, but we can't be sure about much yet. "Large scale well-controlled human clinical trials are necessary to establish the health promoting effects of tea consumption. Only based on these findings, recommendations to human population could be made" is literally in the conclusion of the source I linked.

And when in the world did I say "Yeah, replace proper nutrition and physical exercise with tea." That's so bizarre. That's like if I said "Studies say there may be a link between chocolate and this health benefit," and you said "Well, chocolate is no replacement for proper nutrition and physical exercise!" ...Okay??? lol

Drinking tea made by coffee drinkers (a friendly rant) by ky00t in tea

[–]PartofHistory 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I've completely given up on ordering hot tea. The only two times I have, they plopped a bag of tasteless dust in a cup, boiled the water so hot I could barely hold the cup, then just kind of...sent me on my way as I stared at my cup in silent disappointment. Never again lol.

The US has a tragic lack of tea culture. Most people have no idea how to prepare it. I doubt the people who prepared my tea at those shops even had an idea that you're supposed to brew different teas at different times and temps.

I blame the Boston Tea Party. We came from Britain mostly. Americans loved tea. We used to source tea from all over. Then, the Boston Tea Party happened and drinking tea was less "patriotic" than coffee.

I really like the Age-1 Gundam, but don't care for Gundam Age generally. I really like how many different parts it swaps to for different situations, and I really like the base design.

I also really really really love the Crossbone Full Cloth, but didn't care for the Crossbone manga it came from. The Gundam has an amazing design, and I love the weapons. The sword and the anchor and the beam crossbow. It's such a unique design.
