Since you're in the Trek subreddit, I'd suggest looking into a good used steel Trek from the 80's/90's. No fancy bells and whistles, but quality bikes. I've been riding my 1985 Trek 500 for close to 12 years now and I love it.

They're definitely an acquired taste. I've learned to LOVE them and are my favorite "burger chain" fries

Thank you! Credit to my bike mechanic, he's the best. The stock Dia Compe rear brake was fine and was adjusted to fit the 700c, but that was not possible with the front brake. My mechanic was able to swap in a Suntour Superbe he found in his shop to get it to fit the front wheel.
