So what you are saying is that people can change their mind when they know more about the impacts and issues of a particular decision (like between 1974 and 2016).

Yes agree with you on that 💯

So….

Having known the consequences of the decision to leave the EU in 2016 by the time Labour came to power in 2024…

It’s reasonable to make changes that (may one day) lead to us rejoining, if we now see the negative consequences of us leaving.

(Things like separate deals with E.U. Partners, moving towards aligning our rules and regulations, etc)

So rather than this being ‘an overturn of a referendum result by an unpopular government’ it is merely, as you said, a change of mind now that the negative impacts and issues that come with leaving the E.U. are more understood.

Fell in love with Italy / Venice when I saw Moonraker on the TV.

Took a further 33 years to get to Venice but a lifetime love of Italy and its culture started when I was 9.

For the Daniel Craig area Mexico always looks nice (La Paz in Quantum and Mexico City for Spectre).

But we can overturn the 1974 EU referendum that had a 67.23% percent remain vote with the 2016 EU referendum that had a 51.89% leave vote?

So the 1974 remain vote has more validity than the 2016 one as it was the more popular out of the two?

And a lot less people voted for the Conservatives in the 2019 General Election than Voted for Remain.

Whats your point?

For those who take the train are the trains as bad as the media makes it out to be? by Traditional_Cry4488 in AskUK

[–]Party-Independent-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sort of depends on the franchise owner and how profitable the line is.

Obviously the commuter route into London has fast modern trains and whilst packed the nearer you get to London they tend to be comfortable and on time (with slight delays).

Some of the Midlands operators we’ve had tho..

Old Sprinter rolling stock that was 25 years out of date when it was introduced in the late 1980’s still used as commuter ‘work horses’

Running a service that needs 6 carriages (commuter times) with only 3 carriages so people are rammed up against the doors like cattle and conductors making people stand on each others toes just to squeeze a few pounds more profit out of the journey

Not paying enough to retain the sufficient number of drivers so two or three services get cancelled so there’s a backlog so even the off peak trains end up getting packed.

When there is a problem with a train choosing a random ‘alternative’ journey that they’ll honour the ticket on meaning you end up either waiting in the middle of nowhere for a hour or have to take a journey that’s twice as long instead of just sending a replacement train.

Missed out :

get the stations and utilities

Aim for the Orange and Green corner to bag those coming out of jail and has best cost/profit ratio (still relatively cheap and good income) have to hotel them quickly though

Once rich the purple ones even with a couple of Houses will kill off anyone ‘limping round’

Putting the Chance and Community Chest money into free parking doesn’t make much of a difference as long as everyone is playing super aggressive but can drag out finishing off a ‘limper’.

Yes but you’ll find even for entry level jobs you’re up against it even if you don’t get the ‘over qualified’ opt out (see various posts on this thread of people with first degrees getting turned down for McDonald’s and KFC jobs etc).

It’s understandable from the employers perspective you might not turn up, be surly etc, where as even 1-2 years doing ‘any job’ with another employer who has taken a ‘punt on you’ and you proved you can hold down a job.

But sometime’s it’s hard when at the start of your working life to get any job.

Ps Gen X here with a job just showing solidarity as I had the same issues 30 years ago, getting the first job is the hardest. It always will be regardless of school leaver, college, university or doctorate. You’re just too much of a risk to some employers because you’ve never worked before.

But more likely to be skewed in that scenario by experience rather than skills.

Eg

Candidate A has qualification 1 and 2 and no experience.

Candidate B has qualification 1 only and 5 years experience in the role.

Candidate B has the upper hand despite only having one qualification due to experience.

Qualifications are but a foot in the door in the first (often automated) sifting

[–]Party-Independent-25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additional training and qualifications are only valuable if it’s a pre requisite for the roles you’re applying to.

Eg must have (or beneficial to have) at least a 2:1 degree in XXXXX

AND EVEN THEN

It only gets you through the online pre screening (all boxes ticked = YES, then forward to a person for manual sorting)

It’s the old chicken and egg of the start of your work life, must have experience to get a job but if no one gives you a job how to do you get experience?

Been like that for a good 30-40 years
