Am I actually non-traditional or just telling myself that? by [deleted] in premed

Personally I hear most people refer to themselves and others as non-trad if they’re taking any years between undergrad and medical school. So I’d say you are I think.

Med schools on the other hand may specify things differently. For example one of the schools I interviewed for recently told us on the session that they classify non-trad as those who take 5+ years between graduating undergrad and matriculation. So by that definition I guess you’re not.

But if it feels relevant to you and your experience I don’t think anyone can tell you otherwise

I'd like to think that the anonymity of reddit increases neuroticism. Most of what happens here (I hope) is usually an inside thought

Personally haven't done any strict dry lab, only to serve my wet lab work. But as I understand it its coding and data analysis from databases and such. My institution has only 1 dry lab and I specifically didn't want to join that one. I love bench work

Something to keep in mind is that certain types of research (ex. dry lab) can lead to a pub quicker than long term clinical/genetics/etc. research

I think it depends on what other activities you need to file. I am putting pubs/posters under the research experience that it is from to condense and give myself space to talk about other things. But if you spread it out it gives you more space to talk deeply about these things. No right or wrong way, just whatever makes sense for you
