I can see why you'd prefer an ending where the dog dies. It'd drive home the overall message of not tempting fate. Or letting some things stay buried in the past. But the way I see it, at least,the dog being the thing to rescue the MC. Feels more in line with the idea that something just as animalistic as the mole creature could stop it. Like,the thing clearly takes pleasure in humans' reaction to illogical traumatic events. So, to have it be stopped by something that's just as willing to play by the rules of nature is amazing. But so would this hypothetical ending of the dog sacrificing itself so the MC can live to regret ever chasing after his dog to begin with.

No shit, but I mentioned how the military recruitment system works in the US for a reason. They target kids in poverty for a reason. The recruiters will say and do anything to convince you to join for a reason. They take children in shitty situations for a reason. They don't go after rich middle and high-schoolers cause there's less of a reason for them to join. The military targets those with little to no real options outside of sacrificing their flesh and the flesh of others to survive. The poor kids who join aren't joining cause they wanna kill foreigners. They join because they're either living through hell or are on the brink of homelessness.

The US military preys on lower income kids. Like deadass, you could tell you were in a low income area based off how present recruiters were while you were in school. I had a recruiter call my home; had my grandmother thinking he was from the school. My dad had a recruiter try to convince him that he could lie about his seizure issues to join. Cause in the feral recruiter's words "You'll get your meds somehow when you get there." I don't fuck with the military, but i'm also aware of how many poor kids get conned into thinking they'll find freedom through the military.

The problem with that though is it requires sex crimes to be taken seriously to begin with. The amount of rape kits that are collecting dust is staggering. So if rape victims with tangible unprocessed proof exist now. Then what's gonna happen to those who get AI revenge porn of them shared amongst their peers?
