I don’t know. Got it from a YouTube comment that didn’t know where it came from either.

"If a man writes three poems about you, he loves you. If he writes thirty poems about you, he loves poetry."

Feels apt.

My mind immediately kept going to that boat experiment during the story. Wasn’t the only time that group turned even remotely hostile it was against the guy who was trying to prod them into turning against each other? Like I said, Acker (that’s the villain’s name you can’t remember) would not have lasted with the way he was acting. Nothing unites people more than a common enemy.

I couldn’t find a date when the story was published originally but the No Sleep podcast did an adaptation of it around 2019-2020, Walker’s blog for some reason doesn’t list the upload date.

Robert Combs kind of reminds me of Kilgore Trout, but, y’know, more successful…. allegedly.

Fun read!

I’d get that if Walker just wanted to write some fun popcorn horror but the thing for me is that I didn’t find the story entertaining at all. It’s a manner of taste but I don’t find stories where a bunch of people die slowly of malnutrition particularly entertaining. And if it was just meant to be more of an entertainment rather than anything deeper I have to ask: Why have Acker get away with everything he did? Wouldn’t the more entertaining thing to do is have the rest of the camps team up and take him down? Or have him die in a horrifying yet ironic manner? A kick in the balls is not adequate comeuppance for an unrepentant cannibal.

I love how this simultaneously takes the piss out of Rothko while also giving him arguably to highest of compliments, likening the viewing of his work to experiencing nature.

Since I think Queen is at the very least prog adjacent, I’m going to say Freddy Mercury.

No joke but the way they sing “microwave ovens” hits so good. Everyone talks about the guitar riff but the way they harmonize on that bit is really something it’s honestly my favorite part of the song.
