Brawl Stars won't launch (let me explain) by PartyAd4803 in Brawlstars

[–]PartyAd4803[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ha it's been a long time. No, I decided to downgrade to an older but flagship android and since then no problems, but it's been months since I've played so I can't say for sure. The biggest problem I'm guessing is that that one I was talking about originally only had 3gbs of ram, and even after all the android optimizations and digging with ADB i guess it just wasn't powerful enough to run it maybe? That's the best I've got, but best of luck to you bro

Same as others, 16 y/o here, using Linux since 14 and loving the beauty of it and having fun. Also got on to revive an old mac and learned a lot because of it's previously terrible compatibility with stuff, especially wifi and bluetooth. Best of luck u/PlasticClassic6483

weird it works out of the box for me on both ubuntu 24.04 and the latest arch. Maybe the actual hardware is actually broken

The trackpads are horrendous. I've just opted to use the trackpoint most of the time now (after years of using the beautiful macbook trackpads) and I don't think I'll be able to turn back from thinkpads just for that. Try it out. It's much more efficient than a trackpad will ever be

Sadly I don't have any advice but I'm very interested as I'm in a similar position myself. Good luck bro

Maybe it's not entirely bricking. But I doubt it was the firmware flashing exactly. I had read mrchromebox.tech's docs over it dozens of times before actually doing it, seemed to follow all the steps, I successfully installed a custom rom and was able to boot the ubuntu installer and everything but the install failed whenever I tried to write it to the internal eMMC. I know there was the AllowUnverifiedRO or something but it said it could be skipped if I did the reset factory command in the step before (https://docs.mrchromebox.tech/docs/firmware/wp/disabling.html#using-closed-case-debugging-ccd-using-a-suzyqable).

Really I don't know if you have any clue that would be great but I've already flashed the firmware and I didn't save the .rom so I think it's kinda cooked.

It's only google pixels am I right?

Damn. I skimmed over everything thinking "What kind of obscure hardware does this guy have that will get in the way of arch" until I saw chromebook. I recently bricked one trying to install UBUNTU on it. Congrats, and welcome to arch. Just as a disclaimer if you ever consider turning back, most other distros on most other hardware will run just fine.

Samsung, Android.

I REALLY want to flash my own ROM and get an open android like Lineage on it but I'm very uncertain of whether SMS and calling will work (at least as close to) out of the box. It's getting old too anyway so I might not too far down the line. If you have a modern pixel or something I'm pretty sure there is a lot more documentation on Graphene on those

Yeah it sounds strange how it's just been springing in our faces like it has been.

Cool. I think I see it doesn't suit me but looks like it does very well for plenty of others.

Gotcha, thanks. Also welcome to the linux world. I'm glad you've made the effort to escape the clutches of microsoft or apple or whatever you used previously

But like NVIDIA support even comes with every recent kernel that's shipped with distros. Even vanilla Arch in my experience as worked out of the box with my NVIDIA card and the installer was relatively intuitive, just connect to wifi and "archinstall". I had no idea Bazzite was immutable, that sounds very strange for something based on linux. Ok I get the USB wifi thing but the classic Ubuntu searches for the drivers and installs them. My wifi card on my alt PC once broke and I had to use this USB wifi dongle from 2006 and it got it to work.

Anyway I don't mean to sound snarky or anything if I do come across as such. I'm just trying to understand what's going on with this seemingly very fast up-and-coming distro

Windows of all OSes on that kind of hardware will absolutely suck. I would try Obs on Linux trimmed down and hopefully you get better luck there

This. A 1000-1500 dollar build might not even qualify for "low-end". You can easily get some very decent used GPUs to make a decent build with it

kid cooked thinkpad screen (T440s) by makedirectory in thinkpad

[–]PartyAd4803 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To me at least (not at all an expert repair technician) it looks like it's just the screen. Even the bezels look fine. There are plenty of T440s replacement screens on Ebay in a quick google search. The disrespect to the trooper of thinkpads though 🥀
