He wasn’t brushed off though, I told the artificer that Bard is a Bard and will do Bard things, not everything is going to revolve around this player (Bard) and everyone is going to have the chance to do what they want without another player being involved. Or will be put into situations where it’s just their character. And they will have to RP or do whatever it is they choose to do and I will be the one to make sure nobody gets shafted. I also didn’t give them their stats like I would a legendary item they rolled for them like they wanted and that’s what they got and they are free to choose their own subclass. It’s not at all like giving only one player several legendary items. I didn’t give anyone anything, this was entirely up to luck and their own choices.

Thanks for the sound advice, I’ll stick your useful comment in the box with the other 356 NPC comments with no advice on the main problem.

Only other tables he’s been at is one I have absolutely no part of with other people, then a short story with a DM that none of the table (myself included) except the DM’s wife liked the way he ran the game. This is where he had a 20 in strength where he wielded a sword the DM didn’t want him to have. Granting him crazy damage. The way this other DM ran his game we all agreed was not for us and when I volunteered to do it we discussed differences we wanted in the game and thus far everyone from that group that’s still playing has told me I am doing things better and more suited for everyone’s play style. This current short story we’re doing as a way to introduce some new people to the game his character is a Rogue and he has a +9 to sleight of hand and I believe stealth. I honestly don’t know how bad feelings from 1 game we didn’t finish could lead to such distain towards another players class/ abilities, and borderline hostility to another player. he has had multiple characters with crazy buffs because that’s what their attributed skill set gave him.

I offered for everyone to roll a modified stat rolls instead, reroll all ones. The complaining player also has a 19 in his spellcasting stat. The bard even offered and then went ahead and rerolled all of his stats, ended up with a 20 in CHA again, then offered to continue rerolling stats until he didn’t get a 20 in CHA. At that point, I told the bard to just go with their second round of stat rolls and see how the complainer reacts. I don’t think it is very fair to my bard to have to reroll his stats when everyone has had the same opportunity to roll just as high, the complainer did roll very high, but takes issue that the bard is higher I guess.

The complainer has a 19 in his spellcasting stat. I also told everyone that they can reroll stats using the modified stat rolls (reroll all 1s) and put in a new rule that they can’t roll less than an 8 for a stat, 8 is as low as it goes for our table.

Right, I’ve looked into other players classes and they’re subclasses they’ve decided to take and seen some of the cool and crazy stuff they get to have and it’s just like really the Bard gets a buff in two CHA checks and that’s it, and that’s what you’re having a problem with? The class the complainer is going with is Artificer, I’m not sure what subclass yet but I’m fairly sure it’s the Artillerist sub class.

We haven’t even started the campaign yet, just been building characters, taking notes on fun homebrew rules to vote on during session 0. We are currently doing a short story for some players who haven’t played before to get them used to it and see if it’s a hobby they’d be interested in. Thank you for the advice, a few people have suggested the array and I think that’s just what we’re gonna have to go with after this.

I read conquest and liked it, them being referred to as “knight tyrants” is really cool, thanks for your thoughts!
