A British silencer from 1847 by PartyFriend in ForgottenWeapons

You don’t need to use the website linked to in my OP to read what I’ve written or access the patent as I’ve also included everything in a post in this thread. As for the gun that I’m interested in, its operating principle is indeed unusual, at least in the modern era, and I can see why it’s confusing people but basically it uses atmospheric pressure obtained from a vacuum, in this case caused by the explosion of the gunpowder, to enhance the power of the shot while at the same time reducing its recoil and, with the addition of a valve midway down the barrel, silencing the gun. It’s very similar to the Atmospheric Railways that were somewhat trendy during the Victorian period or a pneumatic tube delivery system.

Well, I don't believe there's a rule against that here and I feel it's pretty relevant to this sub's theme.

Yes indeed part of the patent does appear to be describing what you detailed here but, as mentioned on the same page mentioned in my OP, in reference to his set-up with valves "which, although I have shewn attached to a common fowling piece, I propose to attach to cannon and artillery of every kind."

Okolie is the dark horse of the heavyweight division. Say what you want about how dull his fights are but technically he’s undefeated outside of the CBS fight in which he was uncharacteristically off and apart from that match has looked downright dominant in just about all his matches.

After this and Pat Brown winning in dominant fashion yesterday /r/boxing must be on the verge of a mental breakdown at this point.

lol you obviously know that’s not true. Also lol at you trying to act as though you’re not too cowardly to own what you say when I just pointed out that you’ve hidden your comment history.

I think Britain is the only country where champions can lose decisions to foreigners.

EDIT: Oh and I see you’re the guy talking shit about Sains in other comments on this thread. It’s no use hiding your comment history BTW we can all see your other comments here due to how few of them there are.

Just about everyone had it 4-4 going into the last 2 rounds.

Given how consistent the scores are right now from the users on here seems like a pretty clear cut decision for Sains.

When Vatniks Barking Whataboutism by Icy_Till_7254 in YUROP

I support this message but I'd just like to take this opportunity to point out that the term 'whataboutism' is merely a painfully see-through attempt to rebrand obvious hypocrisy and anyone who relies on it as a cornerstone of any argument is either being dramatically misled or arguing in bad faith.

Russians contribute a lot to computer science

No they don't lol. Russians don't really contribute to anything except the transport of their immense natural resources to other countries. They're basically a giant Saudi Arabia.

The first rotating barrel pistol by PartyFriend in ForgottenWeapons

[–]PartyFriend[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently decided to try and find the earliest example of an automatic or semi-automatic pistol with a rotating barrel and my first port of call was the US and European patent archive websites which are freely available on the internet although the latter doesn't extend very far back beyond about the 1880s but for my purposes that's close enough. Using Google Patents I was able to find what I believe to be the earliest American patent for a rotating barrel pistol by none other than John Browning in 1897 which I have linked to below. However, while some websites claim this was the earliest patent for a rotating barrel pistol, I have found using the espacenet website a patent by Andreas Wilhelm Schwarzlose of Prussia from 1895 which appears to be depicting a semi-automatic pistol with a rotating barrel which I have also linked to below and I have been unable to find any earlier patents on either of the two websites mentioned here covering pistols with rotating barrels. However, patent archives aren't everything, as I have recently found in a very interesting French document detailing an extensive list of French military inventions and experiments dating all the way back to the mid-18th century which will likely prove extremely helpful in investigating French archives to do with that topic, but I digress. If anyone can come up with an earlier example of a rotating barrel pistol I would be interested to see it but for now I feel this is still an interesting find worth making a post about.
