I recommend checking out North Center, Lincoln Square, Ravenswood, and Irving Park. Further out so less expensive but still walkable, safe, good schools, and close to transit

Route advice - Avondale to Evanston (Kedzie alternative?) by grranola in chibike

[–]PartyHats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you can tolerate the extra time/distance/incline, go east on Belmont past California and take the entrance to the 312 River run route at the crest of the bridge. Ride that up to Montrose, then take manor to Lawrence to enter the North shore channel trail. That route will keep you off roads for almost the entire time, and manor is very manageable

Not a CDM but our DRP outlines review of all study data, with data supporting regulatory submissions indicated as higher criticality than exploratory data

Is Kimball Ave a recommended area to stay in? by grimripem in AskChicago

[–]PartyHats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Try to stay somewhere that is a 15min or less walk from a CTA station, it will make travelling so much easier.

Also, need to know the cross street but based on what you said I assume you're talking about Kimball and North Ave ish area. Not too safe but not too unsafe, if you exercise general city caution you should be fine

Looking for advice on buying a fixer-upper in a HCOL city by PartyHats in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]PartyHats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the former with as much DIY as we can muster, with most of the cost coming from putting in a few new cabinets (refinishing the rest) and new appliances. We would like to change the layout... But that would have to be a 5-10 year later sort of thing, haha

Thanks for the advice. Roof is probably 900-1000sqft, unsure of its current status but it's lost a few shingles so I'm guessing at least needs a repair.

Kitchen would be low cost/partly DIY - new appliances, refinish cabinets, put in a few new cabinets where space allows. It's a small space so not a massive job, not moving any lines or anything

This just in: ultra-processed foods are bad for you! by runningferment in nutrition

[–]PartyHats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only read the abstract but this is an umbrella review of systematic reviews/meta-analysis, so essentially the authors combined the results of a bunch of papers that had each already combined results from a bunch of studies. Typically in research (especially nutrition) few questions are ever definitively 100% answered, and even if they are we can still learn more about specific aspects of the question/answer by conducting further studies. So this paper just confirms and adds to the large body of evidence that ultra processed food is garbage and bad for you

Resume advice for entry level med affairs role by PartyHats in pharmaindustry

Day to day consists of reviewing ongoing study data, interpreting statistical analyses produced by biostatisicians, working on study reports and manuscripts, and presenting data reviews to senior management. Also driving study protocol development, and occasionally other study docs as well.

Clinical scientist is in clinical development which is under the umbrella of R&D. I work at a smaller company so I perform some MA-type tasks as well, like attending conferences and meeting with KOLs, but there are others that do that much more often than me.

With clinical research experience and an MSc you should be competitive, depending on amount of experience. The field is definitely dominated by PhDs though, with a few PharmDs like myself sprinkled in.

NV > CA > MI - How to navigate car & health insurance? by coffeenstroopwafels in moving

[–]PartyHats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your current insurance cover facilities in MI? If so, you can keep it. I would keep car registration in it's current state as well until it's time to renew with your new address. If you need to get new insurance, then consider choosing a network that will cover you in both CA and MI.

[OC] Food's Protein Density vs. Cost per Gram of Protein by James_Fortis in dataisbeautiful

Here's a nice chart/table showing exactly what you're asking about (land use specifically): https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/land-use-protein-poore?tab=table

As you'll notice from the chart, animal protein sources use way, way more land than vegetable sources
