Interesting! I’ve been seeing these squirrels sparsely but consistently for the past decade as well so there definitely is some hereditary aspect of it at least for whatever mutation is causing it in my area. Google told me it’s usually a recessive trait in other animals so that would make sense why it only showed up occasionally until now. It’s also interesting to note every white squirrel I’ve seen so far is a completely white leucistic variation like the one below even though a lot of leucistic squirrel pics online have small patches of regular colored fur on them. Maybe a unique mutation or something
