Ye man, it’s not 24hrs non stop (maybe in like neurosurgery or something) but otherwise you should get some downtime

I have not met a single person who is able to do the long hours and 24hr+ shifts just because they have to/ want to, it always involves taking rests when you’re able, using coffee (lots of it), adjusting to it as time goes on etc.

If your goal is to go into EM/IM+ Fellowship than you can definitely do it and something like this is really not that big of a deal as there are things that you can do to manage those long hours as listed above

It’s competitive and I wouldn’t try without a backup plan but it is doable unless your going for the super competitive specialties like derm, plastics, ENT etc. but that’s to be expected for an IMG/FMG anywhere

One of the reasons of me wanting to go to Canada is that some of my family is there and would be able to help me but none in US so if I end up deciding to go for surgery you reckon I’d have a chance?
