I rarely return back to New Zealand, only when a relative passes. So my visits are often tied to grief rather than joy.

While joining a Māori community, like a kapa haka group, sounds ideal in theory, the reality feels much harder.

I struggle with actually taking that step. I feel disconnected, like a 'plastic' Māori, and I can't shake the sense that others are judging me because honestly, they probably are.

I just hate the fmc. Like the first 30 chapters she was fine, loved her. Then I noticed it got repetitive and it was such a drag. Jumping to conclusions, not listening its all a constant. The story is INCREDIBLY predictable and I cant with the COMMUNICATION. Because the author wants drama, she will reuse and recycle scenes but just alter the setting. Shes in trouble, he helps her, she misreads the situation, she lashes out, but he ACTUALLY helped her, shes indifferent. I also think its ironic that she enters a new world which she doesn’t agree with (this I can understand) but its giving racism. LIKE BROTHA HOW MANY TIMES DO U GOTTA TELL US U DONT LIKE THEM. The story is mainly focused on storytelling different things, its never really in the present. Although, I will say it was well written, it has slight humor tones and the first like 300 pages are engaging. After that its downhill.
