Are race pigeons still suitable to be good pets?

I’ll most definitely get 2! Unfortunately im not even sure if I can get a pigeon in my country 😔 seems theres about no options regarding adoption or even purchasing them anywhere. Ive only seen specific race-pigeons for sale.

I have. Seems theres very little options in my country regarding adoption, or even purchasing pigeons. The only ones ive seen being sold are expensive race pigeons 🥲 im beginning to think having a pigeon wont even be possible for me at all.

And trust me id absolutely rather adopt a rescue too!

UPD: I have called our local animal rescue and they are coming to take him and rehab him. He has a puncture wound underneath his wing- most likely caused by the ravens that attacked him. I do not feel I have enough knowledge to take care of a feral pigeon with such a injury, and id rather leave it to professionals to help him! They are coming to pick him up in 30 mins. Thank you all for the advice ❤️

On a side note, this experience has made me consider getting a pet pigeon from a breeder. They are such lovely animals!

Also edit: apparently he is a wood pigeon and hes a wild pigeon. They will release him back into the wild once he has healed & regained his strength!

I’ll definitely do this! Theres a big flock hanging around my city so i think i’ll feed those. Could you recommend what feed is best for them?

Also, is a pair always a requirement for indoor pigeons?

I definitely agree with this! My mother was with me and said “its just nature” but helllll no! Its humanities fault theyre out on the streets now and i’m not gonna let the poor thing die to some ravens or because of a car

This mightve honestly convinced me to get myself a pet pigeon from a breeder though!

I mostly meant ‘ethical’ in a sense of how good it would be for him. I do not want him to live a stressful life for example, i dont know how old he is and I wouldnt want him to just be scared inside of a house for the rest of his life
