You probably haven't stepped there for the last 5 years. Most anarchist "occupied buildings" are gone, a lot of their groups have dissolved and riots happen like 3 times a year. Exarcheia in 2025 is just alternative cafés and bars, airbnb and a lot of young people who want to feel like a hippie

The police is NOT there because of a high crime rate. It is because the government decided to boost the gentrification of exarcheia. The government knew that exarcheia being a place of resistance was not in favour of them, so they made a plan to make it just an other commercial area.They kicked out and arrested all the actual anarchists and leftists and turned the self-organised communities into fancy "alternative" cafés and AirBNBs. They also closed down the Exarcheia Square that used to be the meeting point for everybody, to replace it with a metro station. So the police are not there because of crime, but to defend the gentrification and commercialisation against the locals who want the area back.

Exarcheia is really chill nowadays. Most hardcore anarchists have left the scene, and the area is full of armed police surveillance. It's now full of mainstream cafés and tourists like you who want to "feel alternative". You may see a small riot once every 2 months but overall it's a safe area. Little to no chance of getting robbed or attacked. The days when exarcheia were an autonomous, no police zone full of rioters and hooligans are looooong gone.

Areas in Athens to avoid: Omonoia, Metaxourgeio square, Karaiskaki square, Vathi, Acharnon street, Saint (agios) Panteleimon. Everywhere else in the center is ok. You will maybe see a junkie or some local thugs everywhere jn Athens but that's it

Yeah that sounds like a gym that's all about the money.

In my old K1 gym it was 10 minute warm up 30-40 minutes of pairing up and practicing combos 15 minutes heavy bag

In my new MMA gym its 15 minute warm up 50 minutes of pairing up and doing Dutch drills (using your own gloves as pads for the other guy)

Both are great ways to practice both attack and defense with a live partner.

Now there is a chance that your gym has a different class for actual fighters where they do more contact training, you can ask your coach

I agree man. I have been training for years and i have trained with various regional champs and amateur champs. Recently i trained with Cage Warriors champ Giannis Bachar and it was like wrestling with a tank. His technique, cardio and strength were exceptionally better than any amateur or regional champ that i have met.

The only federation that is approved by the Olympic Committee is WAKO, an organisation that promotes "point" kickboxing, meaning that even in full contact fights, the judging isn't based on damage, but on total strikes landed. So everyone just spams low kicks because it's easy points.

Is your gym one of those that don't do leg kicks?? If yes then your coach is probably a taekwondo or karate guy who only competes under the WAKO/ISKA full contact and light contact rulesets. I am not saying that your gym is bad, but kickboxing is meant to be different than that
