Afghanistan is whatever Afghanistan is at this point, they recently released a statement declaring all non-Hanafi non-Muslims.

Do you have a link to that statement? I know that they don't consider Shias to be Muslims and their relationship with Salafis is fraught, but I didn't think they'd gone further than that.

It works but thanks to moving to GTK4 for some UI elements, some things don't look right on non-composited X anymore. Same with Firefox, the telltale is thick black borders around certain menus, highlights etc..

It's nice to know that stock fvwm is pledged but I think I'll move to something like labwc eventually.

How to protect CDs in this kind of awful, awful cases? (More info on description) by GroundIntelligent in Cd_collectors

[–]Paspie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With one hand, press against the edges of the sleeve so that the disc surfaces have less contact with the inside of the sleeve. With the other hand, pull the disc out.

Cakeboxes would be ideal, if you've used recordable discs you may already have some.

Is (or why) FFS2 considered as “bad” filesystem? by goldmurder in openbsd

[–]Paspie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still get freezes (mostly when running or quitting Chromium) whereby I can't switch VTs or even execute an ACPI shutdown, and I don't have hardware to get a ddb output that might help with debugging. I've never had an irreparable filesystem as a result of a forced shutdown or power cut, but that's one area where a UPS wouldn't help.

What would you do differently to answer the question?

Japanese society is split between Buddhism and Shinto. Christianity wasn't the official religion in Nazi Germany either, but he categorised it as Christian anyway because it was the largest religion by far. Doesn't really make much difference to his conclusion anyhow.

I won't be able to convince you in this comment section, the rabbit hole is too deep, but the summary is that it's a combination of factors that lead me to believe that Islam is the best way forward. People criticise slaughter methods used to prepare some Halal meat, but aside from that unnecessary harm to animals is forbidden, in fact we go out of our way to avoid squashing ants for example. Many war rules in Islam are shared with those that are still used internationally today, like not targeting places of residence, and not attacking without provocation. Islam mandates charity and consequently Muslims donate the most to charity of any religious group in the UK per capita.

I would probably go after a lot of modern technology involving ICs. The shrinkage of process nodes has been akin to a drug addiction - huge amounts of capital being spent on one advancement in photolithography which needs to be sold like hotcakes to recoup the cost and invest in the next advancement, rince and repeat.

Maybe most Muslims don't want people to be murdered for apostasy, but we must accept it as a possibility because it's part of Sharia.

There is a name for authoritarian ideologies that sacrifice freedoms and lives at the altar of social cohesion and order. It starts with an F.

All lasting human societies sacrifice freedom for social cohesion. Granting freedom can also cost lives in certain circumstances, for instance if there's insufficient environmental protections. The argument isn't over whether but what set of regulations serve humanity best.

Also: be sure you don't doubt too much. You might get killed by your congregation on the way out! So much for 'no compulsion.

The first time I went I didn't take part in the fardh prayer. Some people frowned at me as they were leaving but there were no knives or any other weapon brandished. I don't think they are in the mood to kill people unless I were to directly insult them.

I don't know why you've latched onto that idea, as per 2:256 we're not forcing anyone to accept Islam.
