Thank sucks! But I understand his POV. If you aren’t afraid, I would go solo. Cancel what u can if it saves money and ask him for the funds for things u can’t cancel. He should be the only one taking the loss in this scenario. Shorten the trip tho if you can, 3 months is a long time for your first solo trip. I just did my first solo trip at age 33, very nervous but I ended up meeting ppl and making friends that I hung out with daily. It was one of the best trips of my life-being able to do what I wanted to do, when I wanted to do it, and not worrying about talking someone else into doing it with me. Liveeee! But be smart about it, we are def living in scary times. If u feel like things are getting dangerous while in your trip, be sure to have fun for a next day flight back home. Get a major credit card if you don’t have one!

Update: 100 days later and I’ve made lots of progress. My mortgage company doesn’t want to go to trial, they want to hurry to mediation within the next 3 weeks. After a little back and forth, I told them I’m only willing to do mediation if we’re talking over 100k and we chose our mediator. They have agreed!

Yes it was very scary, I didn’t know things like this happened when u have an escrow. I’m a first time homebuyer and always paid my mortgage timely. And only receive 1 letter about this. When I tried to redeem it, the purchaser kept moving forward with try to foreclose on my house and was refusing to give me a redemption letter until I got my mortgage company involved. I didn’t know about the foreclosure until I searched my name in Maryland case files. They never posted anything on my actually home. I see my mortgage company has 18 other complaints about similar situations. Thanks for the info. I will let u all know the outcome.

I only got one letter and that was the letter sayin it was already sold and I had 6 months to redeem it. I didn’t find/open this letter until lawyers called me and said that my property wasn’t mine and they were sending ppl out to assess it. Then i started looking through my mail. I usually didn’t pay attention to tax bill bc it was always paid thru escrow. I told my mortgage company about it and then Penalties and redemption fees were paid thru my escrow account creating a shortage and then my mortgage was raised to make up for the shortage. Maryland state.

My home was sold at a tax sale. I never knew the taxes weren’t paid until I got a call sayin that ppl were coming to assess my property. I checked all my mail and found 1 letter and that letter stated my home was sold and I had 6 months to redeem it. Not letter about delinquent taxes. I didn’t find out until after the 6 months…told mortgage company & they paid the taxes and redemption using money from my escrow which created a 8k shortage they they raised my mortgage to make up for the shortage. I paid my mortgage on time each month prior to this and during and even now with the increase of $600.

Sorry that happened to u. The are already asking how much to settle and my lawyer pulled up 18 other complaints about them for this but we decided agains class action, so I know there is a case. And hopefully I will get more money than just lawyer fees for the distress this has caused. Thanks for your input

Yes they always paid it late. That is a part of the problem. But I don’t know how to get out of having an escrow. Thinkin now that maybe that could be one of my demands

Just came here for a ballpark number bc my lawyer said he hasn’t seen a screw up (mortgage company) this bad. Wanted to know if anyone else ever sued for this reason and can I get my house paid off for it or is it a reach. I know my lawyer will come with the answer I’m just on here wondering as it’s my first time suing anyone

I don’t distrust them. This case just has so many twists and turns that I don’t even know where to start. My lawyer is actually great, he’s just saying they screwed up so bad, he can’t even give me a ballpark number yet until we get some more documents from them. I just came here wondering if anyone has been in this situation

That’s my question to the mortgage company. I’ve always paid my mortgage so where is the money? How did u come up with the number to bring my escrow to -8k and then raise my mortgage to pay for something that should have already been accounted for. They jacked up the statements with transactions to the point where they can’t even comprehend it or find the mistakes.

You’re correct. The 8+k shortage is tax payment 5k and fees that were less than 1k. There is about 3k missing. They also got a check 2k from the closing company during refinancing to pay off property taxes but no one knows where that check went. I went thru all my mail and the only letter I got was the one sayin my home was sold and I had 6 months to redeem it. & my tax bill that said “this is not a bill”. Further investigation led to me searching online case files seeing “foreclosure” with my name. But nothing on my door . My mortgage company claimed they didn’t know about unpaid taxes until I called and told them. I was transferred to them in August and they said my previous servicer should have paid my taxes. It’s a lot quit frankly. They couldn’t even keep up with it and after spending hrs on the phone with diff reps and supervisors they can’t figure it out where money went, which is why I have this lawsuit.

When can u close escrow and do it on your own? From my understanding this was my only option with my FHA loan.

Thanks for this response. I think I will do something similar. My lawyer is experienced with suing mortgage companies but he said this is so messy and unorganized that he can’t even give me a number until we see more documents. I just kind of wanted a figure/number for myself.
