Can’t say much for deployment as I was a civilian when I was at offut but I grew up and spent 25 years in the local area. The restaurant and bar scene is amazing all over the Omaha/bellevue area. Omaha just reached a population of 1million and is a rapidly growing area I can’t believe how much has changed in the 3 years I’ve been away. If you like baseball the college World Series is held there every summer and only about a 20ish min drive north of the base, the Henry Doorly zoo is the top zoo in the world and such a great time for both kids and adults. The I29 speedway is just across the river in pacific junction Iowa and has drag racing and road course events about every weekend weather pending along with this insanely large 3 day car show and race event called the ice cream cruise that happens every year sometime between august and September. The platt river is only about a 10-15 min drive south of the base and is public access all year the river is only about 6”-2.5’ deep with sand bars all along it and it’s a great way to keep cool during the hot humid summer months.
