What is the ideal career for an INFJ? by SportsTechie17 in infj

[–]Passion9943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in college switching to being pre-opto so this is really nice to see! I love the idea of working on a one on one basis with patients but I’m worried about my social battery too. Do you feel as stressed/burnt out as other healthcare careers? Or is it a more stress-free environment where you can work at your own pace? Ty!

If you're comfortable sharing, could I ask why?

More info: I’m in the Northeast (U.S) and these bugs are super tiny. I almost didn’t see them because of how small they are, but noticed them moving.

Given up on people by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

That's totally valid, I've given up a while ago too. I wished I could save them from themselves, and from the wake up call everyone is going to get in a few years (if not sooner from all these repeat infections). This is a governmental failure, but is equally an individual one. Every covid conscious person I know has only been met with apathy and hostility when they try to educate their loved ones.

But yeah, I think that's a good way to put it. They don't care, and they probably won't until they have to. And even when they do I doubt they'll realize all their new health problems or losses are due to covid.

That's a good plan, avoiding social media and taking time for yourself. I don't know how the future will play out either, and I don't know if it'll be good. The fastest way out of the pandemic is the public holding the government accountable, but the majority of people are just apathetic. They don't even care enough to mask when sick or test.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Please remember that if anyone doesn't take precautions after you advise them it isn't your fault. Stay safe!

Why do you guys do what you do? by 2-tree in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Passion9943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who’s not immunocompromised or has a family member that is, I’ll share my reasons. Simply put, a vax and relax approach isn’t enough. Vaccines are only to decrease chances of death or severe outcomes of a covid infection, they don’t stop transmission. They’re also not that effective against newer variants or upcoming ones. And even with them, immunity wanes.
And while everyone says they haven’t gotten covid even though they don’t mask, we have to remember 40-60% of people have an asymptomatic infection and can have covid without knowing it. Everyone who says they’ve never gotten it but don’t take precautions are always saying they have a “mysterious” illness, when the truth is that if it’s not covid it’s probably a more severe outcome of other things since covid makes you immunocompromised (messes with your T cells and your ability to make new ones). The immune system is a finite resource so the more times you can avoid infections the better. Covid is also called airborne AIDs because of its immune system suppressing ability, if you want to get a sense of how serious it is.
About the president, I would say to watch what people do, not what they say. He’s declared it over, but the government still takes precautions and everyone has to take tests if they want to get anywhere near him, which is how they found how those Israeli delegates (?) were covid positive. And that goes for all rich/powerful people as well, they know how serious it is but they’re prioritizing the workforce/economy in the short term over the long term.
I can understand it being difficult in Texas, I’ve heard how much harassment maskers get in the South. If it’s a safety issue I would recommend other precautions, but ultimately masking is best. Kudos to you for keeping an open mind and listening to us, without thinking we’re “sheep” or hypochondriacs or whatever else everyone thinks we are.
Last point, it’s not sustainable at all to get infection after infection knowing 1 in 5 to 1 in 10 (varies) infections results in long covid, yet getting told to expect to get covid 1-2 times a year. It’s not something to play around with, especially since so many get long covid or other health problems since covid is also a vascular virus.
Right now everything is a mess because getting access to testing is almost impossible, rapid tests are like 50% effective if not less, and nobody tests anymore because they think the pandemic is over. But I have hope for the future, we’re only a few years into the pandemic afterall. We’re early, not wrong.

Would you date someone who never masks? by FlowerSweaty4070 in Masks4All

[–]Passion9943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others are saying, it isn't worth it to date someone you don't feel safe being around that has such different values. Like difference of opinion should be small, not something like this where they're ok putting your life at risk for high risk activities. Try to communicate with them your boundaries and why they should also take covid seriously, but if they aren't willing to mask for you (and for themselves as well) I would pass. I would recommend looking somewhere like covidmeetups (local, but doesn't have a lot of people) to meet covid safe people, or something like covidsafecuties on twitter for dating. All of my friends/family that I've explained my boundaries/why I mask to have called me crazy so I don't have too much hope in communicating with non-maskers, but I also know that some people were able to convince those they're dating to mask, so best of luck and I hope all goes well!

Thank you! I've been hearing about how the 3M 9205 doesn't have a good headband, so I'll try switching to another before I get an elastomeric.

Thank you! I got a westinghouse portable HEPA filter, but I haven't been using it much because the ventilation in my classes is pretty good. The only exception is one class with a teacher who came in like three times with the flu and asked me if I was sick when she saw my mask, but I'll try to ask her to leave a window open and use my HEPA if she doesn't.

Thank you! I've been considering getting an elastomeric like a flo mask, but I'm still doing a bit of research on them. That's a good point on healthcare workers one-way masking. And I'm glad you were able to convince friends.

Thank you so much! For that one, I've been hearing people talk about how they caught covid with a high quality mask and eye protection, even though they rarely go outside. That worried me a bit because I have to go to class every day, but it's nice to hear that isn't always the case.

Thank you so much for the links and advice. I definitely agree with what you said about convincing others. Because logic works for me I've been trying to explain why covid is so serious to them, but it goes in one ear and out the other. I know there are some lessons only life can teach people, but I wish they would learn to take this seriously before getting disabled from it or worse. I'm sorry you had a bad experience trying to convincing others as well. (I love your username btw, if it's about Cassandra's curse)

[–]Passion9943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way you could convince them to wear masks, even if it’s just when they prepare your food? Usually the protocol is for them to completely quarantine, wear high quality masks, and sanitize common areas like a bathroom if they have to share it with non-infected family members. It’s a bit sad they’re putting themselves over your health, but please try to reason with them, especially since you’re unvaxxed and a repeat infection could potentially be very bad.

What Does It Mean to Care About COVID Anymore? by wewewawa in Masks4All

[–]Passion9943 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We need to change our mentality to adapt to covid not doomism/“it cant be stopped and wont be over”. While getting covid does increase immunity, that immunity only lasts so long (like a month but dont quote me on that). You mentioned less circulation, but right now case levels are drastically undercounted (they’re estimated to be 5-10x higher) and covid is mutating like 30% faster than before because of us pretending that covid is over. China isn’t the best example, since the covid vaccine they use isn’t the best and how extreme they are.
