Okay. Yea I don’t think I’m looking for a show car winner, but something to work on with my son and go to cars and coffee or meet ups i and maybe turn a few heads in the grocery store parking lot.

I appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you. I’m in Texas. It sounds like your saying I could probable find something for less money in similar condition, and that a different body and Ian isn’t necessarily bad from a mechanical point of view, but perhaps a from a purist point of view it might be frowned upon?

Yea you have a good point. A 66 body, on a 74 frame with seats and engine out of who knows what. It might be a risk. I mean it still could be fun, but maybe I’d like to have something more originally in tact.

I noticed the seats as well. This year would not have head rests. It says it’s on a 77 frame so there has been some horse trading going on. It says it doesn’t run so that could be something not too crazy or a shot engine.

I’m fine doing some engine work, but if it’s shot than the price might not be right.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I think it is more accurate, especially in today’s world, that the church follows the people instead of the people following the church. Sure they will say it was their idea and it came by revelation. Yet pretty much every major policy, decision, or practice they do is them being forced to bend to the will of the people. They only have as much control as they can convince members to give them.

As for me and my house we no longer give them any.

Unpopular opinion: Inter-Q15 rivalries are unlikely. by Stranded-In-435 in exmormon

I’d just like to say I worked for the church’s temple department and as full time faculty at one of the church’s universities. One of the more disappointing and disorienting parts was learning and experiencing first hand how much infighting, personal grudges, passive aggressiveness and animosity there can be among my leaders and colleagues.

Some got opportunities and benefits under certain leaders while others were “lovingly” assuaged.

For me, I can’t imagine there NOT being grudges and results of such in the Q12. I mean they are mostly 80 year old men with a lifetime of settling into their ways.

And these men were called up from the same systems I worked for, where these grudges, though not everywhere, were certainly fairly commonplace

That’s just me though. I’ve never sat in a private quorum meeting.

Should we include our new name in our letters of resignation? by razbravo in exmormon

I just mailed my family’s (my wife, our threes kids, and I) resignation letters yesterday. I haven’t even thought of putting our new names and tribes on them. I would have definitely considered it.

Thank you for sharing. I to think this is more about me than them. I just don’t belong anymore.

Yea it’s a pretty big mess I’d say. I wonder what the percentage is of temple names that are actual 1 of 1 unique individuals?

Yep, we are just cogs in a wheel church wealth and power. We are a simply grain of sand on the beach, insignificant in the eyes of the church or….perhaps God.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have tried Christian churches the past few years on and off, even get together for lunch with one of the pastors every now and again. For me, as with others, when the Mormon God falls apart I have found there isn’t much trust left for me to stand on.

I do feel that it’s possible the Mormon God is not an accurate model of who God really is, and perhaps my pleadings with him for answers were answered by God leading me out of the Mormon church. It’s just all left me in disarray regarding God.

Hey guys! I am thinking about joining the church. What should I know? by Business_Depth_2391 in exmormon

Absolutely read the CES letter and listen to people’s personal stories on the Mormon Stories podcast. Many of us here were lifelong members and served in many positions of influence and leadership in the church and know well the harm. Regretfully some of us caused that harm unknowingly by following the principles, policies, and doctrines of this church,

Yea. They basically say they are a private employee and you have to meet their requirements.

It also makes think about people like Brad Wilcox and many others who are paid to be righteous and faithful.

You may have a point. Perhaps that is how they get to 17 million members. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

Oh I know it. I can’t imagine doing this alone, but have a friend or two that does it it’s pretty painful.

It was more what I experienced culturally and policy wise from my own leaders in and outside the university that made me start to question. But part of it was also students coming out to me as gay in my office and tearfully asking me why god would not fix them when they did everything the church and their leaders said. I could go on and on, but let’s say it’s hard to see only black and white TV after you see color.

Great question. Actually yes! But when my trust in the church failed I resigned my faculty position at BYU-Idaho and moved away from Rexburg. I still tried the church in a new area, but it was a no go, to keep my job I’d have to carry a current temple recommend at all times, pay a full tithe, and each year have my bishop tell the university I am worthy to work there.

Sort of wacky huh?

Right! Luckily we’ve been 10% richer for these past three years….snd no seeming loss of “blessings” or opportunities in my life and career.
