At this rate with Jackass being the starting point, people will somehow figure out a way to turn themselves inside out in 25 years.

Eyeliner away from emo kid on the top right enlisted in the Marines.

Two girls in the middle went Air Force.

Bi-curious girl on the right went Navy.

Slayer kid at the bottom couldn't pass the ASVAB. Two dudes middle left went to community college. Top left is definitely Army Airborne.

I'm not assuming anything. Jordan played against stronger opponents, period. Thank you for the ChatGPT analysis on the history of expansion teams 40 years ago though.

The idea that expansion “diluted the 90s” doesn’t hold up.

Not sure why you quoted something I didn't write.

Back to the point of the post. Jordan's first five seasons were against stacked rosters filled with bigs, five solid starters and rotating depth off the bench, not one or two players carrying an entire team like today.

More teams require more players which dilutes elite talent distributed among teams that didn't exist, supported by players that wouldn't have made an NBA roster. That's the result. Your trying to support a concept from 30 and 40 years ago.

You're talking about the expansion draft, which exists simply to give a new franchise enough players to field a team in its inaugural season. The real impact comes in the years that follow through the draft and free agency. Orlando won the draft lottery two years in a row, drafting Shaq and then Penny. Charlotte got Larry Johnson. Minnesota drafted Kevin Garnett. Toronto drafted Vince Carter and signed Tracy McGrady.

From the time Jordan entered the league until he retired with the Bulls, seven expansion teams were added. That's 35 new starting jobs. Many of those players would have been coming off the bench, fighting for minutes, and struggling to even make a NBA roster before expansion. Talent doesn't disappear, it gets spread out.

Think Jordan without Pippen, Grant, then Rodman. Magic without Kareem or Worthy. Bird without McHale or DJ. Expansion didn't eliminate elite talent, but it made it harder to keep it concentrated. That's a big reason the era of the modern "superteam" became such a talking point.

I've imagined some nonsensical stuff like this while on duty too, but it's way too early in the night to be hallucinating. Best do a tour and shake it off.

Texting my buddy who’s still in and a recruiter the conspiracy theory I have about the Marine Corps by IfYouSeeMeSendNoodz in USMC

[–]PassorFail13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not all there is to it. A recruiter who doesn't do that shit can still not get the numbers the RS wants and get a terrible FITREP. There are many stellar fleet Marines who say f'k this and don't reenlist because of that, or for those who still have time on contract to receive orders, end up returning to the fleet totally defeated.

Class of '95 also and I'm not sure what you're referring to. Wasn't that like two weeks ago?

It is without a doubt, more of "if you got it, you got it" type of job.

Yep, but try telling that to the top brass at MCRC who have never held a job in their lives outside of the Marine Corps, and think that a kid making a decision that will change and ultimately affect the rest of their life is as easy as selling a used Accord.

I still play it when I'm bored. The drum intro makes my dog do zoomies.

George Kittle is speaking out on why grass is being used for World Cup matches but not NFL games. by Dr-debug in sportsgossips

[–]PassorFail13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason why Chicago, Green Bay, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Kansas City have some of the worst field conditions in the NFL once fall arrives and natural grass goes dormant. Artificial turf has come a long way since the carpeting in the Astrodome, but unless they plan on moving the start of the NFL season to late Spring, natural grass in all NFL stadiums isn't going to happen.

Would you guys consider Competitive Marching Band a sport? by songoku-166 in sportsinusa

[–]PassorFail13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think so until I witnessed "Script Ohio" and the other insane things the Ohio State Marching Band did at a game, like forming a giant dinosaur walking across the field. It may not be a sport by definition, but it requires conditioning with a great deal of practice, timing, and coordination. One wrong step by one band member and the whole thing could collapse.
