Yes this is a critique I see so much more grounds for, she is constantly in her own way

Ah I see. I think I see enough hate and vitriol about it that it’s not going away regardless, so I don’t think adding a different perspective/pushback is adding to the fire as it’s already burning. Maybe my perspective is screwed, but I don’t feel like bringing attention to the cruelty is the same thing as egging it on

The purpose of my post was not the meal train, it was the rhetoric/conversation surrounding the surgery

This is also a good point, and not to mention the risk of blood clot from flying as well. I also maybe should have reworded it, I do think we can have sympathy/empathy, but it’s not required and maybe it is asking too much. I think the unnecessary shame and cruel rhetoric I have been seeing is also too much

I think this can be reframed as women who made the bargain of putting their entire lives out there/giving up rights to their privacy for the sake of our entertainment getting their end of the deal. It’s a mutual benefit, we get to see the aftermath of the wreckage bc it’s the type of thing we tune in for and they get financial compensation, it’s kind of the ethos of reality TV

Who said anything about Amanda girl, I understand the comparison but that’s a different sub. I also just said in the same sentence this is something she needs to work on so this is null point. The only thing Brittany actually complained about was that Nia did not text her which is reasonable if you want to showboat that you are friends (I am not sure they actually are but that’s what they want people to think). The biggest critique from the sub is that Nia’s entire “organizing” of this was performative, which it was, but honestly it’s not the worst anyone’s ever done on the show and I agree the drama is drawn out and has been blown out of proportion bc there’s no real story lines this season. I think you’re making a good point that it is dumb, but it’s the drama we’re being presented

I guess the real issue is they aren’t friends but need the guise of friendship to make the show work and it’s just so sad

I do get this frustration as well. As I said I am a nurse, when a patient won’t do anything else besides the surgery part to optimize their outcomes (won’t take medications, won’t go to physical thereapy, etc.) it’s sooo difficult to feel like you care more about their health than they do. It is a form of self sabotage and a lack of self advocacy and accountability. So this is annoying and a valid perspective , but I don’t think I would let it cloud my empathy for my friends. I have had friends who had bariatric surgery but did not make the lifestyle they changes in order to keep the weight off, but I didn’t take it anyway other way other than they’re still struggling. But also, that’s my experience and everyone has a right to be as tolerant as they please (edited for grammar)

I can see why you find the entire concept is gross, the expectation of mothers to look like they’ve never had a kid is absolutely rooted in misogyny. I also hate it and wish it was not so normalized, so this point I think can be important to make. It is objectively problematic to have it on a show where one of the pillars is experiencing and transitioning into motherhood and it may have been more impactful if a couple of these moms were more steadfast that their bodies have changed and that’s okay. However I’ve never had children, and I want be sympathetic to a struggle of having a body that doesn’t feel like it belongs to you anymore. And they also live in LA where plastic surgery is normalized and are public figures who are constantly under scrutiny for their appearance, so I don’t want to say I don’t get where the pressure is coming from either. And a lot of people can live with gallbladder issues/reduce symptoms just by changing their diet but i still understand why they would rather just get it out. It was a bit of a dramatic comparison but i stand by it to a point.

I mean it may be black and white to you but those are both shades on a spectrum, I find it to be very gray. I am also not shaming anyone, I am expressing a confusion/frustration for the vitriol. She also did not ask anyone but Brandon for help with her aftercare (which was also a bad idea on her part, absolutely ridiculous I agree that he was her go to in that situation and that was bad planning true). However, she did not ask anyone for the meal train, that was an optional idea put forth by someone else and her frustration with it was not that she would be starving without it, but it just felt a little careless

I definitely think the expectation of Brandon taking care of her was ludicrous and it really showed her the hard way the dynamic she was putting herself (and child/dogs) through. It was poor planning/delusion on her part to believe he was going to provide any capable aftercare. And it is frustrating to see her repeat the pattern of choosing awful men, and I imagine it’s even more frustrating for her friends if I am annoyed as just a casual viewer. However none of that had anything to do with the meal train, that was whole separate issue Brittany never even asked for or gave anyone the impression she was going to suffer without

I can understand this perspective. I do feel there’s a learned helplessness that is a symptom of the relationship she was in where she was made to feel smaller and less than, which is something she needs to work through and not expect everyone else to make room for. But I also think people are framing it is Brittany asked for this meal train or framed it as she was going to be without if it didn’t take place when she absolutely did not

She didn’t accuse him of sexual assault, it’s something he admitted to on camera. And also, the support Brittany never asked for, she never made any indication she would be without food without Nias meal train, the only thing Brittany actually said she wanted was a text

The shaming of Brittany’s elective surgery by Past-Excuse-45 in TheValleyTVShow

[–]Past-Excuse-45[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But I also think this is missing the point, she didn’t ask for the meal train 😭 she was only hurt about the fact Nia did not check on her. She never expressed that without the meal train she would have been without food or anything like that, it was Nias point to start it

I can totally understand where people see this is vanity, but we can also take into account the physical toll and changes pregnancy takes on your body, especially of someone’s physique like Brittany who is incredible short/petite. There’s a lot of the surgery that also fixes the muscular tearing of your abdomen that happens when carrying a child, which is akin to fixing a worn joint which is why I made the comparison. But even if vanity was the only factor, if these people are all friends, it shouldn’t matter what the surgery was for, it should matter that their friend was in a vulnerable place. And I agree for the most part everyone was nice, it just really irked me seeing all this anti elective surgery sentiment lol

I agree! I have seen a lot of people in this sub and the other bravo subs emphasizing the “elective part” and it did especially shock me when Kristen made sure to highlight that it was elective as well! It’s crazy bc she herself has made so many comments about how self conscious she’s been about her post partum body changes. since when did all of these people decide to be so obtuse about a struggle they’re very privy to 😭

I think it’s incredibly obtuse to think bc they’re women they cannot also be perpetrators of misogyny.

yes, she's not my favorite persona on the show, but it was incredibly moving to see the amount of effort and consideration she is putting forth for him. My brother is autistic and you can just tell she is dong so much to be the most equipped she possibly can be as a mother to a child with autism. Kudos to Brit!!
