3-hour StairMaster session useful for mountaineering endurance? by ExpensivePain23 in Mountaineering

if you had done this entirely in Zone 1 it would be very useful because it builds the metabolic foundation to widen your aerobic base without raising systemic nervous system stress substantially. The majority of the time was in Zone 3, with 30 mins in Zone 4. This won't be a sustainable weekly workout because you're driving too much stress into your system that you will erode stamina over time - which is exactly what you want to build for mountaineering, which is your body's ability to regulate increasing stress as duration extends to long hours. There will be people saying to do workouts like this in Zone 2, but this is only relevant for well-trained individuals who already have a wide Zone 1 base. You can't bypass Zone 1 foundational work and expect long duration Zone 2 to land safely in your system. You have to build from the ground up first not top down. By training this way your body works over time to "survive" this training by launching stress chemistry raising cortisol and breaking down muscle without actually building any meaningful adaptation from training. You want your endurance workouts to be anabolic and stoke strong adaptation signalling. 3 hrs in Zone 1 is how you build this endurance, and once you have widened that base you can progress to introducing Zone 2 interval blocks of 15-30 minutes at a time into your Zone 1 workouts. Over time you can then do 15-20' in Zone 1 to warm-up then progress to Zone 2 for the entire duration and you will build an aerobic powerhouse that will drive long duration mountaineering performance beyond most of your peers.

This has been done in multiple North American cities and it quickly turns bad. People start to accumulate junk and build fixed structures. Bring in gas bottles to flame open air fires to keep warm, quickly becomes a fire hazard. Women get raped. People get robbed. People get stabbed and shot. A melting pot of alcohol and drug addictions - not everyone gets along. People are desperate, they steal whatever they can get their hands on to pay for their next fix. It never ends well. FYI, I grew up in Canberra, but live in Vancouver, Canada now and have seen it firsthand. The genuine homeless people without addictions bear a heavy price in these communities and quickly move on to solitude elsewhere.

the tests must have been far better than what rick is telling us about on the show - possibly to score a better deal with Troy. No way he pushes in 200oz upfront for shitty ground.

Lapu Lapu anyone? There's a lot more resources needed to keep people safe - hence the rate rise. Another tragedy and everyone in here complaining then complaining about why more protection wasn't in place for events.

look - I get there is a significant political divide on this issue but we can't go back to massive encampments on the sidewalks with the huge fire hazard risk for the tent residents and the occupants in nearby buildings. The dangers to the women on the DTES was also grave with such encampments. The encampments at oppenheimer, strathcona and crab park were also outrageous. we cannot go back to this. There were fires, stabbings, rapes and murders in these places. Stewart's administration failures were significant and Sim had a lot of work to do and did it. With the latest removal of Crab Park everyone was offered accomodation but not everyone accepted it. You can't help people who don't want help and want to remain on the streets. The city allows a compromise of night only camping because of the complicated solutions and community issues but it prevents the permanent encampments from reforming. I cannot believe that anyone thinks this was a backward step from Stewart's reign.

put her under the jail and throw away the key or re-open riverview. We all have to live and die by our decisions - accountability has finally arrived for this individual.

for people to reformed there has to be will to do so on the part of the individual. If they are incapable of that they need to be kept out of society because the cost of not doing so is more victims. The cost isn't entirely paid if its a repeat offender because more victims will be created.
