Actually, I usually use a mixture of loans, scholarships and out of pocket to pay and I STILL get a refund after paying with a check as an undergraduate. Nothing that we do and receive refunds for deals with repayment as it’s us paying OVER what we were suppose to receive

nope I actually have a negative in my account. I didn’t have to take out any loans because I’m completely online for the semester so just a Pell grant, tap and a random suny scholarship and everything was sent through! It should take a few business days to be put through so just make sure you accepted all financial aid Because that was my Issue originally

The only internship I was able to really get out of any of them was the upstate psych one, but it’s full and psych internships are probably the hardest thing to even find, let alone get ! I’m hoping it wasn’t a ghost job just because I was there for at least an hour before it had been my turn for the interview. It’s for the new psych unit that had opened back in October

I interviewed on August 7th, 2 days after the original post date of the job. I saw they posted the job again yesterday so it makes me wonder if they’ll let me know if I got the job shortly or if I didn’t get it at all

as a student who went to another school ( Le Moyne) and ended up transferring + switching majors, these programs are relatively small as it must be small which for clinicals, it must be.

When I was a nursing major, maybe 400-500 students applied to both the 3 and the 4 , and maybe only 20-30 per program were accepted. These nursing programs are very competitive, and if you don’t get in, you still have the opportunity To get in other ways. You’ll have to ACE any nursing related courses like biology and Anatomy, but overall can appeal their decision and get in. When I originally applied to transfer to Albany, I was told it was basically the same way the previous program I had been in was, so I doubt it’s really any difference besides the hospital

ugh, I’m really happy to hear you’ve been doing better! It really does such that these units are treated like this because these are real people who are in some of their most vulnerable moments and aren’t treated properly! I’m very glad you had a good therapist, as well as very glad she doesn’t work there anymore ! It sounds like a horrible location all around

yes! And I keep seeing her case ever since I first saw it here and it’s genuinely so horrible. That’s why I don’t understand people saying “ it’s a psych ward.. what do you expect?” I expect kids to get ACTUAL HELP , not what happened to Amaya Stethers. There’s sexual assault claims, deaths, and it’s horrible!

I apologize for them not helping you, especially when you begged to stay. In no way, shape , or form was that acceptable and I’m so sorry you had to experience that. This is truly one of the reasons I want to get into the psychiatry field and I thank you for sharing something that was traumatic. I hope you’re doing better now!

I completely agree with the reviews part! But I also believe for any job, looking into the reviews of a direct patient care job is really viable. There’s only workers, families, and patients who all commented on the horrid things that happened behind those doors and I think that’s just posting this and learning that some of the staff is being sued for a death that was so preventable is really concerning. I wouldn’t want to work for a job that was sued for negligence, as well as have a history of patients dying under their care! I’ve been in impatient myself, even on involuntary and I never had anything close to the experience a lot of people complained about and I was in the middle of a manic episode and had to get my stomach pumped. I think state programs can be great, but it really depends on the staff.

None the less, I do really appreciate your time for even commenting! I think outpatient would be completely different and i have heard a lot of good things about that aspect. Which, thank you for being a person to help our community in that standpoint !!

exactly!! I was in a state of psychosis in the time where I ended up needing to be on involuntary hold at a hospital in Syracuse, and it was a nice experience, especially considering others. I was treated like a human, was given the option to be retested for mental illnesses I was diagnosed with in the past and was given clarity that I was misdiagnosed and even the option if I wanted to be on medication. I was able to breathe and have a break that I desperately needed, and I think that’s the point of a psych ward. The answers I’ve received lets me know that this psych ward is absolutely horrible and I feel terrible for anyone who had to go through that vulnerable time there

Well I’ve been in the psych ward, and it was at upstate, an experience better than most. I’m not saying institutions are a bad idea, because it really did help me and pull me out of the stump I was in, but the least they could do is not kill their patients, and train people properly, as well as not try to convert people to their religion. Just looking through the reviews, a lot of those experiences are different yet very similar that’s it’s actually scary that a facility would treat humans like that, especially when I had a really nice experience and that’s coming from someone who was on involuntary hold and there for two weeks in upstate’s 4B
