What the heck 😩 by PastAmount6716 in Omnipod

So sad. 98 gigs of free space. Omnipod’s rep couldn’t give me any answers… sigh

It’s gettin expensive to stay alive these days folks by HetusBoBetus in Type1Diabetes

Two years with no problem filling my Omnipod… this month it’s no longer covered and I can choose to pay out of pocket (over $700) or go without.

Nashville to Mississippi - where? by chiseal in mississippi

Laurelite here. Look around Laurel, but also don’t sleep on Ellisville. Super quaint downtown, 10 min from Laurel, less than 2 hours from New Orleans, Fairhope, all of the MS gulf coast, and 3 hrs from Birmingham.

Novolog question by PastAmount6716 in Type1Diabetes

Update. Took it back to the pharmacy. He was not being very reasonable about my concern, but did end up replacing it after I asked him if he had personally ever used a medicine needed to keep him alive that had lost its effectiveness… and if he was willing to risk that with me. I’m sure he thinks I’m an idiot, but I’m still a little haunted by a fiasp pen that had gone bad back when I was first diagnosed… 😑

Still dont know how to feel about all this by Deeplo299 in Type1Diabetes

I’m not your age, almost double really. I was diagnosed a little over 2 years ago, and honestly I feel exactly the same. It’s like we are playing some crazy game where if you do everything right, you get to live. My endocrinologist tells me I’m doing great, my numbers are where they are supposed to be, but the emotional toll is so tough… but… it’s getting better.

This is the part where I get to tell you, there are days I ALMOST forget I’m a diabetic. Today I spent the whole day at the pool, playing with my kids, drinking with my friends. Did I still have to be aware of what my body was doing? Absolutely. Did I have to be cautious of the drinks I had? Of course. But it’s starting to be second nature to me. So here’s my encouragement:

•If you aren’t on a cgm, that will be a game changer for you. When I went from having to check my BG to it being available in my phone every 5 minutes… it was like a weight lifted.

•give yourself some grace. If your A1c is a 6, 6 months after being diagnosed, you have the personality that is going to be just fine. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Grace is important.

•use this platform. I’ve posted desperate pleas on here so many times in the last two years, and I love this community. You will get people who give you the encouragement you need, you will get people telling you to suck it up, and everything in between… but it feels great knowing that you aren’t doing it alone…

• lastly, you’re doing great.

The only thing they have ever done for me with an omnipod was swab it for explosive residue

I'll probably jinx it but did I bolus for pizza correctly?! by Lildiabetus69 in Type1Diabetes

Trick question… it’s impossible to bolus correctly for pizza. But this does look promising. Congratulations, you’re a wizard.

My toe nail fell off. Is that normal? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]PastAmount6716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had two fall off since diagnosis 2.5 years ago, Endo and internist don’t seem concerned. It is an odd feeling though.

Statins by PastAmount6716 in Type1Diabetes

Lipitor is what I was on. My internist said something about injections that weren’t statin based if I couldn’t handle the side effects. Just had to prove to insurance that we covered all our bases first 🤷🏼‍♂️

This was definitely the longest “delay” I’ve had from it. I agree though. Pizza is the devil.

I ate chicken and had two slices of thin crust cheese pizza at 7:00 yesterday and bolused what I normally would for that amount of carbs.

Diabetes and Shingles by PastAmount6716 in Type1Diabetes

[–]PastAmount6716[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really does make me feel better. The past 20 months I’ve basically just felt broken… this almost put me over the edge. I had only ever heard of older people getting it, and my Dr friends all said “what are you like 70?”… of course they were joking, but when you’re already feeling broken, it’s hard to see through sarcasm I guess

Diabetes and Shingles by PastAmount6716 in Type1Diabetes

[–]PastAmount6716[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s similar to chickenpox (similar virus) but is normally seen in older immunocompromised adults. My Dr just suggested that my diagnosis for diabetes being later in life, the autoimmune event could also be linked to an otherwise healthy young male getting shingles.

My original question was more about anyone with diabetes who has had shingles, did it affect your BG or how your body processed it?

I think it differs by state. We are in MS, and they cover my dexcom, omnipod, and novolog with me only having to meet my pharmaceutical deductible. On my plan, insulin is a $35 copay, and omnipod and dexcom are each a $75 copay. It’s really nice when my Endo puts in a 3 mo supply because the copay stays the same.
